The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

Lakeland Preparatory is making their first varsity appearance this spring as they are expanding their school. Last season, the Lions competed at the middle school level under head coach Chris Godwin and finished with a (16-1) record in 2022.

Competing at the high school level for the first time this spring, the Lakeland Prep Lions will be a younger and inexperienced squad, although they do not have any playing time at the varsity level, the Lions did play together at the middle school level last spring and will look to carry that momentum over to the 2023 season as they are gearing up to compete in the Class A.

Some top players for the Lions include several 2026 and 2027 prospects, including 2027 SS/P Brett Godwin, 2026 OF Jack McDaniel, 2027 P/1B Kash Hardin, 2027 UTL Ryan Pitts, 2026 P/1B Bryce Thomas, 2026 OF/P Kaleb Tune, 2027 P/C Will Britt, 2026 P/1B Olivier Grandchamp, 2027 P/3B Breckon Boyd, and 2026 2B/P Noah Lindsey.

Although the Lions are gearing up for their first season at the varsity level of play, it should be fun to keep up with Lakeland Prep this spring.
