The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Lions have been the new kids on the block as they only have a couple of high school seasons under their belt in D2-A. Last season, they went 12-20 while getting knocked out by state tourney participant Silverdale in the best of 3 region series. They’ll look to take another step in their third full season under Coach Chuck Hargis and they have several impact upperclassmen in the mix. ‘23 SS/RHP Diego Rodriquez will handle duties at SS and contribute on the mound in a key role. ‘23 OF Diego Castillo has a physical frame that stands out and some thump in the middle of the lineup. ‘23 RHP/1B Camden Hargia will serve in the ace role and provide a lefty bat in the order. ‘24 UTL Elijah Henry expects to play all over the infield and ‘24 C Eric Lasso will manage the staff behind the plate. ‘25 INF Brock Mauk will pair with Rodriquez up the middle and ‘24 OF Blake Bible will roam the outfield. They’ll lean on their offense and defense while they lack pitching depth, but ‘23 LHP Eli Moore has a tall frame and could play a key role on the mound. Perennial power CAK will be a heavy favorite in D2-A district one, but the seeds 2-4 could be a toss up, especially with the addition of Providence Academy (Johnson City). The Lions hope their growing pains and upperclassmen can put them in a position to compete deeper in the East Region and beyond.
