The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Lynx made it to the West Region tournament in D2-A, but were eliminated to finish the season at 17-14. They’ll return a solid chunk of their roster and will lean on their defense early in the year while the young club finds their footing. ‘23 RHP/OF Jack Whittington is the lone contributing senior that returns and will be a source of leadership while two-waying. They return a pair of juniors in ‘24 RHP/1B Luke Hamblen and ‘24 C Nicholas Cartaya, who should be a solid pair of upperclassmen, as Hamblen will play a key role on the mound and Cartaya will anchor the defense at catcher. After that, it will be a lot of youthful faces such as: ‘25 RHP/INF Noel LeBnlanc, ‘25 UTL Warner Johnson, ‘25 MINF Colin Wilbon, ‘25 INF Caleb Doty, and ‘25 INF/RHP Colin Woods. This will be a key group of sophomores that will be heavily involved this Spring. ‘26 UTL Christian Doty and ‘ 26 OF Tatem Daniels are a pair of freshmen to keep any eye on as well. D2-A West will be a challenge as Northpoint Christian is coming off back-to-back state runner ups while ECS and FACS put together very solid postseason runs. The Lynx are coming off a winning season, but they’ll look to take another step and build towards the future.
