The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Panthers went 7-12 last year in 2A and failed to get out of the district tournament. It is a very tough district with Loretto, Summertown, and Giles County, who are always competitive programs fighting for two spots in region play. Lewis County will look to take the next step as they have two competitive arms to match up in district play, but are also very youthful. ‘23 RHP/OF Sloan Moseley is returning from Tommy John and will be a great veteran presence for the club as a two-way. ‘25 RHP/CINF Brycen McDonald is a highly touted, big frame arm that will trail Moseley and hit in the meat of the order. ‘25 SS/RHP Bentley Kelsey is another sophomore that will play up the middle and contribute on the mound. ‘25 UTL Brayden Whitlow will play all over the field and contribute offensively. The team has a very athletic roster, but they’ll have to learn how to win. I’d expect this group to take some lumps early in the season, but they are hopeful to begin playing their best ball towards the end of the year to advance to Region play. They certainly have some impact arms, which will be a tough matchups within the district, but they’ll have to build the experience to compete with the top programs in the area.
