The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Outlook: 

The Cherokees and head coach Scott Turpin are coming off a sub state appearance to follow up a (19-17) overall season in 2022. Gearing up for the 2023 high school spring season, South-Doyle will return five positional starters and four of their arms on the mound. The Cherokees will look to five upperclassmen this spring to play a vital role in the everyday lineup and will also count on a handful of underclassmen who are coming into the mix as well this season.

Top returners for South-Doyle will include Milligan recruit and '23 OF Jared Beal, '23 RHP/3B Jadyn Foust, '24 RHP/SS Noah Irwin, '24 switch hitting catcher Eli Waldrop and '24 UTL Brayden Carr. Underclassmen that the Cherokees will look to play a role in the 2023 spring season will be four sophomores, '25 RHP/OF Tyler Ansell, '25 UTL Gabe Jones, '25 RHP/UTL Holden Lowe, and '25 corner infielder Hunter Tipton.

Should be a exciting season in Knoxville for the Cherokees as they compete in a well rounded region with Lenoir City, Sequoyah and Fulton. Look for them to make some noise and make a push deep this season.
