The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Eagles were a very youthful club last season, which showed at times, but they hung around in league play to finish the year 15-19. This season will be another young bunch, but some got valuable varsity time last Spring. The headliner is ‘25 RHP/SS Grayson Burleson (Vanderbilt), who will be the ace and anchor the middle of the defense. He was nearly up to 90 at Future Games and has played up the middle for two seasons already. ‘23 C Bradley Weisner (Muskingum) is a solid backstop while providing veteran experience and thump in the lineup. ‘25 3B/RHP Kane Konig will pair on the left side with Burleson and serve as the no. 2 arm. ‘23 OF Weston Pigg and ‘24 OF/C Zach Staggs will roam the outfield and be key contributors for the Eagles. ‘25 RHP/1B Kurt Burleson got a lot of time last year and will be the no.3 arm. ‘26 RHP/SS Jackson Bennett and ‘26 OF/RHP Cason Blackwood will be a pair of freshmen to keep eyes on to fill out the roster. This is a strong small school program that made a state tourney appearance in 2021, but they’ll have to go against a tough league with Loretto, Giles County, and Lewis County. We’ll see if the youth can come together this Spring and they can make a push into the postseason.
