The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Vikings turned in a great season as they won the district regular season and then advanced to the 3A State Tournament. They dropped their opening game to Tullahoma, but battled back out of the losers bracket to reach the 3A semifinals as they were eliminated to finish the year 29-11. Looking ahead, they’ll return a solid nucleus of veterans, especially in the lineup and on the mound. ‘23 OF/RHP Andrew Dingus (Milligan) is coming off a district player of the year season and will be the centerpoint of the lineup and the mound. ‘23 OF/RHP Rylan Henard and ‘23 LHP Payne Ladd return after throwing significant innings last season and will round out the frontend of the pitching staff. ‘23 SS Evan Mutter and ‘23 2B/UTL Braden Wilhoit will lock down the middle infield and play key roles towards the top of the lineup. ‘24 OF Ashton, ‘24 RHP/C Cainan Meyers, and ‘24 1B/RHP Isaac Blevins are three juniors that saw little time last year, but will be stepping into more significant contributor roles this Spring. All three have shown upside and will be key to helping the Vikings push into the postseason. The x-factor is ‘26 OF/RHP Gage Graziano, who is a highly touted freshman that can contribute as a two-way and develop into a high caliber arm. The Vikings will be the favorites in district one, but it is a tough league with Sullivan East (State Toruney ‘22), Unicoi County, and Elizabethton all fielding very competitive clubs. Tennessee High will have the experience and pitching depth plus a lineup that can put up runs in bunches to make another deep postseason run in 2023.
