The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Patriots put together a very quality season last year as they went 24-10 and made a sub state appearance. They compete in a challenging district with Pigeon Forge and Alcoa battling it out towards the top. Heading into this year, Union County feels good about their veteran roster plus some good postseason experience. ‘23 INF Max Richardson will lead the offense as he’s been a consistent contributor and can fill in as closer. ‘23 RHP Eben Hansen (King Univ.) is back to serve in the ace role, who beat Pigeon Forge last year, and will hit in the middle of the order. They picked up a slew of transfers with ‘23 SS/RHP Ian Setzer, ‘23 RHP/1B Dylan Ford, ‘24 RHP/OF Kaden Stinnett, ‘26 RHP/UTL Brady Stinnett. Both seniors look to play big roles and the Stinnett’s will provide some quality depth. ‘24 UTL Trot Russell can do a little of everything and will slot back into the leadoff spot. ‘23 C Landon Hamic is back behind the dish to help manage the staff. ‘24 RHP Gavin Janeway is another quality arm, who logged 40 innings last year and will play a key role. ‘25 OF Ty Edds played every game as a freshman and will patrol CF again this Spring. Union County snuck up on people last Spring and this year they’ll look to take another step and get to the state tournament.
