The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Patriots went 21-12 last Spring while making an appearance in the 2A state tournament, dropping in the semifinals to Pigeon Forge. They lost a senior group that helped lead this team on a historic run, but it will be next man up mentality and some crucial returning experience from last season. Biggest void will be replacing a pair of graduating arms and it seems ‘23 RHP DJ Hardrick (Jackson St Commit) and ‘23 RHP/3B Caden Rains will lead the pitching staff. ‘23 OF/LHP AJ Lopez will roam the outfield and be a crucial lefty bat this Spring. ‘24 C/RHP Tyler Zeligman is back behind the plate and could be a x-factor arm in a variety of roles. ‘25 MINF Cayden Waggoner looks to slide over to SS after splitting time between 2B/OF last year. ‘24 RHP/1B Jude Griffin should handle first base duties and provide depth on the mound. ‘25 UTL Justin Smith is another big lefty bat for the Patriots lineup. The Patriots will look to stay atop district nine as I’d expect them to battle it out with runner up Fairview, and aspirations to find more postseason magic in 2023.
