The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

Coming off a (18-17) season in 2022, the Governors look to have another all around solid season as they return a handful of both position players and arms on the mound in 2023. Head Coach, Justin Harris will rely on five of his top upperclassmen to help lead his squad, along with several underclass prospects to step up and make an impact as well this spring. Returning six arms on the mound this season, all of which saw 15+ innings last season, the Governors should have some depth and experience both on the mound. Their pitching staff will be led by '23 SS/RHP Justin Bell, '23 RHP/OF Kendall Brewer, '24 RHP Brooks Bird, '24 1B/RHP Nate Ray and '25 UTL/RHP Davis Nyitrai.

The Governors also return five total positional players who played a vital role in 2022, led by Walters State signee Justin Bell who hit (.333) last spring and also showed power at the plate with six home runs, five triples and twelve doubles, an uber athletic prospect at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds who looks to have a successful senior season. Another piece to that offense will be 1B Nate Ray, who will be a middle of the order bat, Ray hit (.282) last season and also collected 32 total RBI's.

Look for to William Blount to be in the mix of things in district 4 this season.
