The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Chargers got off to a sluggish start last season, but they played extremely well the rest of the way. They swept through the postseason and reached the 3A state finals, but ultimately lost to Upperman 2-0 and finished the year 21-14. They’ll return a good chunk of their roster with 6 returning starters plus depth on the mound. ‘23 SS/RHP Holden Warmath (Dyersburg St CC) will set the tone at SS and contribute on the mound. ‘23 LHP Parker Davis (Dyersburg St CC) returns as the no. 1 arm and will be a competitive matchup. ‘23 2B Brennen Forbes has been a three year starter and will hit in the middle of the order. ‘23 UTL/RHP Lane Butler will play all over the field and be a key contributor on the mound. ‘24 LHP Braden Gover is an arm on the rise as he saw district innings last year and came on strong down the stretch. ‘24 UTL/RHP Benjamin Smith started in the outfield, but can play multiple positions and provide mound depth. ‘25 INF Christopher Smith started as a freshman at 3B and will log time at both left side of the infield positions with Warmath on the mound. ‘25 LHP/1B Kamden Arrmstrong will be one to watch as he’ll play a big role on the mound. Lot of veterans on the infield and an influx of left handed pitching is a sound recipe for success. The Chargers will battle with Munford and Brighton within the district, but Covington has their eyes on the prize as they’ll look to reach their third title game since 2019 (Champs in 2019, Runner up in 2022).
