Team Report: Dulins Dodgers



On Saturday, Houston High School hosted a scrimmage day for Dulins Dodgers, featuring three of the teams under the travel ball organization’s umbrella.  A report on those players (sorted by grad year), can be found below:

2018

2018 RHP Woodward, Jared (Union City) – Max FB: 83, FB (78-82), CB (70)

6-6, 203-pound right handed pitcher showed projectable size w/ present fastball life.  Pitches from a full wind-up w/ a slight stab in back from an over the top release.  Gets extension and gets down the mound.  FB w/ ride through the zone, occasional sink.  Recorded 42 % swing and miss on the pitch.  Medium downer CB flashes proper rotation w/ avg depth.  Around the zone, flashes ability to pitch with intent.  Intriguing arm speed and size.   

2019

2019 RHP Baskin, Dylan (Brighton)Max FB: 83, FB (78-83), CB (66)

6-0, 155-pound right handed pitcher w/ some projection remaining.  Pitches from a full wind-up w/ repeatable movements and high ¾ release.  FB w/ downhill plane, some late arm side run.  Fastball heavy pitcher threw 55 of 56 fastballs.  Mixed in 1 CB, which showed above avg depth.  Around the zone, still learning to command, really locate fastball.  Interesting RHP follow w/ projection.

2019 MIF Dingess, Brett (Riverdale) – 5-11, 180-pound middle infielder w/ all around offensive skill set.  Righty hits from a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ bat shoulder hand location and bat waggle.  Stride and proper hand load.  Quality approach w/ idea of his strike zone.  Gap to gap offensive profile w/ developing power.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Intriguing offensive profile.

2019 MIF Freeman, Dalton (Magnolia Heights, MS)6-0, 170-pound middle infielder performed, going 2-4 w/ a walk and 75 % hard contact.  Righty hits from a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location in front of the body.  Shift of weight, stride and proper hand load.  Generates bat speed w/ present gap to gap power.  Can get pull heavy at times w/ hips leaking.  Projects to hit for average w/ barrel feel.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Memphis commit.

2019 CIF Jenkins, Kirby (Har-Ber, AR) – 6-2, 200-pound corner infielder w/ intriguing offensive profile.  Righty hits from an open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location w/ some hand rhythm.  Leg kick w/ proper load.  Lower half works well in swing, allowing ability to generate significant power.  Above avg bat speed.  Pull power now w/ potential for above avg all fields power.  Can get a little pull heavy at times.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Power first corner bat w/ offensive upside.

2019 RHP Lewallen, Zach (Briarcrest Christian) – Max FB: 83, FB (77-82), CB (68)

6-2, 205-pound right handed pitcher w/ prototypical size.  Pitches from a full wind-up w/ some head violence, effort.  Over the top to high ¾ release w/ slight cocking action in back.  Deceptive w/ arm coming to window quicker then hitters expect.  FB w/ occasional arm side run.  Threw 1 CB, a 12-6 w/ average depth, rotation.  More control then command right now.  Deceptive righty w/ some feel for spin.

2019 OF Meeks, Terris (DeSoto Central, MS) – 6-0, 160-pound OF w/ premium arm strength, running speed.  Righty hits from a narrow, straight on, upright stance w/ back armpit hand location and hand rhythm.  Mini leg kick w/ low hand load.  Generates bat speed.  Gap to gap approach.  Projects to hit for some power as frame fills out.  In the OF, showed plus arm strength, making him a very intriguing option to see on the mound. 

2019 MIF Norman, Patrick (Central Magnet)6-3, 190-pound middle infielder w/ projectable body.  Righty hits from a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location.  Shift of weight w/ slight crouch, proper stride and load.  Generates bat speed w/ all fields approach.  Developing power.  Just scratching the surface of his potential.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Very intriguing bat and body.

2019 CIF Payne, Ethan (Germantown)6-2, 200-pound corner infielder w/ projectable power.  Lefty hits from an upright, slightly open stance w/ back shoulder hand location and bat waggle.  Leg kick to open w/ proper load.  Big power ceiling w/ above avg bat speed.  Understands his zone, will take his walks.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Tennessee commit.

2020

2020 OF/RHP Booker, Kyle (DeSoto Central, MS) – Max FB: 85, FB (76-84), CB (70-74)

5-10, 155-pound 2-way player shows potential both ways.  In the box, hits from a straight on, upright stance w/ back shoulder hand location.  Leg kick w/ proper load.  Generates bat speed.  Patient approach, does not expand his zone.  Slight hip leak limited ability to use all fields, easy fix.  Will hit for average w/ pull power.  Defensively, shows above avg speed w/ above avg arm strength.  True CF.  On the mound, pitches from a full wind-up w/ H ¾ release.  Up tempo delivery, still learning to repeat timing.  Quick arm.  Gets downhill at times.  FB shows some arm side run w/ occasional sink.  CB flashes plus w/ tight rotation, above avg depth.  Thrower learning how to pitch.  Tennessee commit.

2020 MIF/RHP Forsythe, Lane (Trinity Christian Academy) Max FB: 81, FB (77-79), CB (68-69)

5-9, 150-pound 2-way player shows projectable tools both on the mound and at the plate.  In the box, the righty hits w/ an open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location.  Knee to knee mini leg kick w/ proper load.  Gap to gap type w/ bat speed.  Intriguing offensively. On the mound, pitches from a full wind-up w/ repeatable movements.  Glove hand stays low, resulting in occasionally pulling early, creating direction and timing issues.  Straight FB has occasional run.  CB showed proper rotation, struggled to get on top of it in this outing.  Thrower still developing feel for strike zone.  A 2-way player to monitor.     

2020 MIF Milner, Coltin (Tupelo, MS) – 5-8, 150-pound true SS made multiple plays while performing, going 2-3 w/ a double.  Righty hits from a straight on, upright stance w/ back shoulder hand location.  Some bat waggle/hand rhythm.  Stride w/ proper load.  Generates above average bat speed w/ barrel feel.  Projects to have pull power as frame develops.  Understands his zone, projects to hit for average.  True SS w/ arm strength to stay at position.  Shows good first step quickness w/ reliable hands.  Potential special player as he matures.

2020 LHP Poindexter, Sam (Collierville) – Max FB: 81, FB (77-80), CB (69), CH (72-73)

6-3, 215-pound left handed pitcher is big, physical body, reminds of former Collierville 1B/LHP Adam Hall.  Pitches from a full wind-up w/ H ¾ release.  Still learning to use legs in delivery.  FB w/ consistent arm side run, occasional sink.  Slurvy CB gets loose, early breaker hitters see rise out of hand.  CH w/ armspeed, fade and sink used as an out pitch.  Feel for burying.  More of a thrower then pitcher right now.  Very intriguing lefty w/ a velo jump coming.

2020 C Rutter, Briggs (Zion Christian) – 6-1, 170-pound catcher w/ makings of elite defensive tools.  Offensively, the righty hits from an open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location and a short bat waggle.  Leg kick w/ no hand load.  Swing stays in zone for long time, will see improvement w/ some hand separation.  Gap to gap type offensive player.  Defensively, shows soft hands w/ feel for receiving.  Moves well behind the plate.  Above avg arm strength w/ solid release yielded consistent sub 2.1 pop times.  Big time catching prospect.

2020 RHP Vacarro, Nick (Christian Brothers) – Max FB: 83, FB (79-83), CB (68)

5-10, 150-pound right handed pitcher showed quick arm w/ big velo ceiling.  Pitches from a full-wind up w/ repeatable movements.  Lightning quick arm from H ¾ release.  Straight FB.  Mixed in one CB that he did not finish.  More control then command right now, projects to average w/ feel for the strike zone.  Intriguing young arm.

2021

2021 RHP Burns, Caleb (Etowah, AL) – Max FB: 80, FB (75-78), CB (62), CH (69-70)

6-5, 215-pound right handed pitcher w/ XL frame and chance for 3 pitches.  Pitches from the stretch only w/ straight arm action through the circle.  Creates downhill plane.  Straight FB, counts on downhill plane to create life.  Tight CB showed late break w/ above avg depth.  Above avg CH w/ armspeed, fade and sink.  Learning to throw strikes.  Intriguing righty projects as potential starter w/ 3 potential above avg pitches.

2021 MIF Ince, Jeffrey (Memphis University School) – 5-10, 160-pound switch hitter w/ potential for 4 tools.  From the left side, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location and hand rhythm.  Toe tap w/ proper load.  From the right side, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location and some hand rhythm.  Shift of weight, toe tap (occasional double toe tap) and load.  More natural from the left side, but repeats swing from both sides well for a young hitter.  Bat speed w/ projectable power ceiling.  Flashes an all fields approach.  Showed above avg arm strength (topped at 82 on mound) w/ solid middle infield actions.  Intriguing young prospect.

2021 CIF Jordan, Blaze (DeSoto Central, MS) – 6-0, 215-pound corner infielder w/ big raw power.  Righty hits from a straight on stance w/ slight crouch and back shoulder hand location w/ bat waggle.  Stride and load.  Premium power bat w/ excellent bat speed.  Getting used to seeing constant spin and off-speed stuff, pitch recognition developing.  Moves well for size.  DNS enough defensively for an eval.  Mississippi State commit.

2022

2022 MIF Smith, Parker (Milan) 5-0, 110-pound middle infielder performed, going 2-4 w/ a double.  Righty hits from a straight on, upright, back shoulder hand location w/ toes pointing towards each other.  Back shoulder hand location w/ hand rhythm.  Leg kick and proper load.  Clean swing w/ bat speed and still head.  Barrel feel w/ balance.  Potential high level hitter as matures.
