Tennessee Diamond Notes: Week 1

The Tennessee Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2022 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see last week.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Tennessee Diamond Notes. 

 

Travis Caleb Royston SS / RHP / Hampton , TN / 2022

Royston made his 17th career start on Opening Day. It was another impressive performance with 5IP, 1 Hit, 7 K, BB, 0 R, 63 pitches (45 Strikes) in a 5 inning mercy rule win on Opening Day

At the plate, he also went 3-3, BB, 2B, 3 RBI

 

Jace Littlefield 3B / SS / Hardin County , TN / 2022

Hit .467 for the week with a 1.046 OPS, 7hits, 6 RBI's. 4 IP on the mound with 3 hits and 6 strikeouts and 0 runs allowed

3 of his 7 hits gave the Tiger the lead. Game winning hit w/ 2 RBI's against Parsons Riverside.

 

Matthew Dallas LHP / 1B / Briarcrest, TN / 2023

Dallas had a strong opening day performance on the mound with 5 IP, 0 hits, 1 ER, 8 K's 

At the Plate, he went 4 for 7 (.571), 1 triple, 2 RBI, 4 Runs

 

 

 

Peyton Grimm SS / RHP / Dobyns-Bennett, TN / 2022

.400 AVG, 4 1B, 2 HR, 10 RBIs, 1.237 OPS, .800 Slugging, 2 SB

Pitched 3 innings of relief in win over Dickson County

 

Colton Lovelace SS / RHP / West Creek, TN / 2023

7 IP- 8 hits- 1 run- 0 ER - 0.00 ERA- 3 BB- 11 SO- (1-0) complete game

 At the plate - 10 AB - 5 H - 2 RBI - 3 SB - 4 runs

 

 

Dean McCalla RHP / 3B / Houston , TN / 2023

At the plate, McCalla batted .385 (5-13) with 3 singles, 2 doubles and 7 RBI while his team went 5-0. Led off the last game of the week with a lead off double in the 8th inning and scored the winning run in a 8-7 victory.


On the mound,  he went 1-0 pitched 5 innings 1 hit 11 strike outs

 

Brooks Jones 3B / OF / Middle Tennessee Christian, TN / 2024

Jones had a strong week at the plate, going 6-12 (.500), 1 HR, 5 Runs, 5 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SB, .625 OBP

 

 

 

Andrew Hoover 1B / LHP / West Ridge, TN / 2023

Hoover had a very impressive start to the season for West Ridge tossing a complete game, no hitter.

5 IP, 1 BB, 9 K’s. 

 

 

Cale Vinson SS / RHP / Oakland, TN / 2022

It was a fast start to the season for Vinson. At the plate, he batted .400 with one triple and five stolen bases over 5 games

 

 

 

Braxten Alexander Cannon County, TN / 2022

An impressive start to the year for Alexander, going for the complete game (5 innings) with 11Ks and a 0.00 ERA. Only threw 70 Pitches. 

Also helped himself out at the plate with a hit.

 

Lucas Smith / Blackman, TN / 2022

6.0 innings, 6 K, 0 BB, 5 hits, 0 runs in 1-0 shutout of Wilson Central opening day.

 

 

Cooper Kay / Chattanooga Christian, TN / 2023

Kay was part of a combined no hitter for Chattanooga Christian. He went 5IP, 11K, 0 Hits.

 

 

 

Zach Worsham 3B / RHP / Jo Byrns, TN / 2024

In two games, Worsham went 5 for 7. 2 HR. 5 RBI

He also pitched 3 innings with 5 Ks.

 

 

Connell Hardin 3B / RHP / South Gibson County, TN / 2022

At the plate: 9-12, 7 1B, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 4 R;

On the mound: 7.0 IP, 1 W, 4 H, 2 BB, 7 K’s

 

 

 

Brandon Phillips 1B / OF / Whitehaven, TN / 2022

8 ABs, .875 AVG, 4 triples, one double, 2 RBIs, 3 Runs, 2 SB, 7 Hits
