Unsigned Senior Games: Team Navy Pitcher Analysis

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games took place on October 11 at Vol State and afforded uncommitted seniors from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event.

The following is a look at the Team Navy pitchers who participated in the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those players who also participated as a position player at the event had that performance featured in a previous article.

Cody Mitchell, 2016, Roane County, LHP
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left handed pitcher has a strong and athletic frame, quick arm that works through an over the top arm slot, good tempo in delivery, shows a fastball that sat at 82-84 mph that was mostly straight, also has a curveball that was 69-70 mph with a very good 12/6 sharp break that generated several swings and misses, Mitchell used both sides of the plate well in his outing in giving up two hits in two innings pitched for the navy team. Mitchell committed to Walters State following the event.

Caleb Cox, 2016, McGavock, RHP
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound right handed pitcher has a strong athletic frame, uses longer am action and works through a high-3/4 slot with regular effort, fastball sat 81-83 mph with occasional arm side run, showed good feel for his 68-69 mph curveball with 12/6 action, also showed a changeup that sat at 70-71 mph and showed good sinking action thrown with good arm action. Cox produced solid swing and miss stuff in his outing with five strikeouts for the navy team.

Evan Davis, 2016, John Overton, LHP
The 6-foot-6 200-pound lefty has a large frame with room to add, uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 slot, stays closed and works slightly across body, minimal effort in delivery, fastball sat 77-79 mph with occasional arm-side run, curveball was 65-69 with a sweeping 2/8  break that he commanded well,  stayed low in the zone consistently with both pitches, gave up one hit in his two inning outing for the navy team, intriguing lefty with his size and easy delivery.

Dalton Heath 2016, Pope John Paul ll, RHP
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound right handed pitcher with an athletic frame uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 slot, up tempo delivery that he repeats well, pounds the strike zone with fastball/curveball mix, fastball sat 80-81 mph mostly straight, also showed a curveball that sat 69-70 with 11/5 action located well at the bottom of the zone. Heath produced many ground balls in his two inning outing while allowing just one hit.

Damien Alcorn, 2016, Oakland, RHP
The 5-foot-9, 135-pound right handed pitcher uses long arm action and throws from a ¾ arm slot with regular effort in delivery, fastball  sat  75-77 mph, arm slot produces occasional arm side run, curveball sat 69-70 mph with tight spin and 10/4 break. He also showed a changeup that was 67-68 mph with good deception off his fastball. Alcorn induced several weak pop-ups in his two inning outing for the navy team.

Darin Keller 2016, Tullahoma, LHP
The 5-foot-11, 155-pound left handed pitcher with a lanky frame , arm shows some quickness through a high-3/4 slot, shows good pitchability, fastball  sat 74-76 mph, shows good feel for his 65-67 mph curveball with 1/7 action and some depth, showed a changeup in warmups that had solid fading action,  Keller used the outside corner most of the day and produced ground ball outs. He gave up no hits in his two innings of work pitching outing.
