It's no secret the recruiting process has sped up significantly in baseball the last few years. That means more commitments from underclassmen than ever before. What it doesn't mean is players still can't fall through the cracks or develop later in their high school careers, leaving potential high-level players on the board with their senior season fast approaching.

Matthew Dudas appears to be one of those players.

At 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, the Ravenwood HS catcher is athletic, and he turned in an impressive showing at Saturday's PBR Tennessee Preseason All-State Showcase.

In a display of his athleticism, Dudas began his day by running a 7.03 60-yard dash. That would be the beginning of his impressive performance.

During defensive drills, Dudas showed good catch-and-throw skills with solid footwork. His consistently accurate throws registered at 78 mph from the crouch with pop times consistently in the 1.96-2.00 range.  In addition, he showed solid receiving and blocking abilities while catching during bullpen sessions with good lateral movement behind the plate.

Offensively, Dudas took one of the most impressive rounds of batting practice on the day. He generates good bat speed through the zone and began his round with a barrage of line drives. As the round wore on, Dudas began to show good pull-side power with the ball jumping off his bat with backspin carry.  He registered an exit velocity of 88 mph off the tee.

Look for Dudas to play a very key role, both offensively and defensively, for Ravenwood this spring.
