Tennessee HS Team Preview: Oak Ridge Wildcats

The 2025 Tennessee high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the state tournament championships – but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Oak Ridge High School Baseball Program went 28-16 in 2024 and made it all the way to the state tournament where they were put out by Arlington. Oak Ridge returns the majority of that state tournament team with 8 starters and 6 pitchers back in 2025. Oak Ridge will have a strong rotation and deep lineup that should give them an opportunity to get back to Murfreesboro and make a run. 

The senior class returns two impact players in 2025’s Milligan College commit LHP/INF Peyton Witter and Walters State CC commit LHP/OF Cy Stephens. Witter finished 2024 with over 50 hits and 40 RBI’s. He will return to the middle of the order and contribute important innings on the mound. Cy Stephens is a powerful bat that has been up to a 99.5 exit velocity. Stephens will be a corner outfielder and will also pitch out of the pen with a mid-80s fastball. 

The junior class has two big time names in 2026’s University of Tennessee commit RHP/INF Mikee Teasely and 1B/LHP Kamden Welch. Teasely is a former Prep Baseball Tennessee Future Games participant and the #5 player in the state of Tennessee. He has a fastball that has been up to 93.4 and a devastating mid-70’s breaking ball that has spin rate at 2600. Teasely will also be the 3 hole in a strong lineup and play third base. Kamden Welch was a big reason for the run Oak Ridge made in 2024. He returns to the middle of the lineup and first base. He will also join Teasely in a strong rotation as Welch is a mid-to-upper 80’s left-handed arm that shows solid projection. 

The sophomore class brings back two players that shined in their freshman year in C/INF Parker Free and OF Warren East. Free will be the starting catcher and top of the order hitter. He has a ton of upside with a 98 mph exit velocity and 1.95 pop time. He also has shown tremendous athleticism for a catcher with a 6.94 60 time. Warren East returns as the leadoff hitter and center fielder. He is a speedy outfielder that has showcased a 6.8 60 time and also showing pop with an exit velocity up to 95 mph. 

Oak Ridge returns all the pieces that got them to the state tournament a year ago. They should be looked at as one of the favorites to make it back to Murfreesboro and compete for a championship. We will see how this ends up playing out, but we may see a new sheriff in town in East Tennessee.
