2025 OUTLOOK

+ The South Gibson County Hornets enter the 2025 high school baseball season with momentum and high expectations following an impressive 31-12 campaign and a TSSAA 3A state tournament appearance that saw them finish just short losing to the eventual champions. With six returning starters and a deep group of six pitchers, the Hornets are poised to remain a top contender in the state. The group has a strong mix of seasoned upperclassmen with promising underclassmen.

It all starts with Ace and one of their junior leaders Cade Allen. The number 3 ranked player in the 2026 class of TN provided clutch performances on the mound last season finishing with an undefeated record. The Tennessee commit carries himself confidently with easy lower 90’s velocity and a three pitch repertoire, proving himself as not only one of the best in the state, but the nation. You then have MTSU commit junior Tommy Baker, another participant for Team Tennessee at the Prep Baseball Future Games. Baker is known for his smooth defensive play and offensive production, making him a key leader in the infield and outfield. Senior RHP/OF Jack Bradberry comes in with a strong arm and versatility. The East Central CC commit will be a key asset on the mound and in the outfield. Senior leader Gage Nesbit will be a middle of the order hitter while providing above average defense at third base. He offers some upside and should be able to play at the next level. Senior Aiden Moore is coming off a six-win season on the mound where he will be an essential part of the Hornets' pitching rotation this season while contributing defensively at second base. He looks to step back into the number 2 role providing a quality 1-2 punch in district play. Junior outfielder Brock Beasley is a speedy and dynamic outfielder, where he scored 32 runs last season and is a catalyst at the top of the lineup. Junior Jackson Isley notched four wins as a sophomore and is poised for an even bigger role this season on the mound. Sophomore Jacob Bateman is a promising underclassman with two-way potential and adds depth to both the infield and pitching staff. The club also has a pair of freshmen that should see varsity action this season in Miles McClure and Tyler DeHaan. McClure is a young catcher that will look to gain valuable experience as part of the Hornets' future foundation. DeHaan offers size and projection on the mound, making him a name to watch in the coming seasons, while getting experience this season on the mound where he comes in with low 80’s velocity and pitchability.

With a strong returning core and a pitching rotation featuring multiple college commits, the Hornets have the pieces in place to make another deep postseason run. The Hornets will face tough competition in the district, but their depth and talent should help them rise to the challenge. I can tell you that Coach Cates is excited about this group and the journey that lies before them.
