Tennessee HS Team Preview: Walker Valley Mustangs

The 2025 Tennessee high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at the state tournament championships – but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ The Walker Valley High baseball program finished the 2024 season going 15-18 and was eliminated by McMinn County in the district tournament. It was a down year for Walker Valley who is consistently in the mix to go to the state tournament. They come into this spring returning 6 starters and 6 pitchers. 

Walker Valley is senior heavy returning 9 players that will have a big impact. 2025 Cleveland State commit C Jordan Smith returns as the starting catcher and is a 3 year starter. 2025 Maryville College commit LHP/INF Titus Torbett finished last season throwing 49.2 innings with a 1.55 ERA. Torbett enters the spring as the ace of the staff. 2025 Milligan University commit UTL/RHP Michael Pledge has a big frame and will hit in the middle of the lineup while also contributing innings on the mound. 2025 RHP/INF Cooper Cantrell will be the #2 starter in the rotation behind Torbett. Cantrell finished last spring with a 1.85 ERA. 2025 OF/LHP Cooper Henry is another effective pitcher for Walker Valley. Henry finished the year with a 1.3 ERA on 26.1 IP. 2025 INF Satchel Cole is a great compliment to an elite pitching staff as he has the ability to play anywhere in the infield at a high level. 2025 Kent State Tuscarawas commit RHP/OF Bryson Kent will provide innings on the mound as a hard throwing righty out of the pen. 2025 MIF Carson Minnix has dealt with injuries but returns this spring healthy. Minnix will be the starting shortstop and top returning hitter from 2024. 2025 OF Hayden Harrison will be the starting center fielder who is a great defender that should be a big help to the pitching staff. 

Walker Valley comes into the spring with an elite pitching staff with tremendous depth. Their biggest competition in the district will come from Cleveland and McMinn County. WIth a veteran group, Walker Valley has a chance to return to the sectional round and a chance to go to Murfreesboro.
