2016 TOS: Day 1 National Notebook

The 2016 Tournament of Stars is underway in Cary, NC, and Prep Baseball Report Executive Director Sean Duncan and National Supervisor Nathan Rode are in attendance. For the first two days of games—Wednesday and Thursday—they will provide two notebooks. Duncan will highlight players from states in PBR’s coverage area while Rode will cover the rest of the country.

CARY, NC—Wednesday at the Tournament of Stars was all about pitching and RHP Hunter Greene (Notre Dame HS, CA) was sure to make his presence known. In the third game of the day, the UCLA recruit took the hill for the Pride in the third inning. The first pitch out of his hand was 96 mph with life. He sat 94-97 for two innings, allowing just one hit—a bloop single—while striking out four. He pitches with an up tempo delivery and has a loose, quick arm. He gets down angle on his fastball and flashes arm-side sink to it. Greene’s best secondary pitch—at least in this outing—was his changeup. It sat 85-86 and he has excellent feel for it. It looks like a fastball out his hand and features fading action. He also mixed in a slider in the low 80s with sweeping action, though it had occasional sharpness.
