With the 2018 spring high school season in full swing, it’s time to make an update to the Texas Class of 2018 Rankings. This class features plenty of high-end draft talent at the top of the list, including several players who will look to hear their names called on Day 1 of the MLB Draft. 

We have not only made quite a few adjustments, but we have now expanded the 2018 rankings to 235 players. Also, make sure to stay tuned to the website as our updated rankings will soon come an updated PBR Draft 100.

Below we take a look at the Top 5 with full breakdown, along with a complete look at how the Top 10 stacks up:

+ 2018 RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson (Kempner HS) stands 6-foot-3, 210-pounds. The Texas recruit throws a high volume of strikes with his fastball-slider combination. His slider is a true out-pitch, commanding it at 74-77 mph. His fastball sits 91-92, touching 93. A two-way player, Woods-Richardson is a true athlete that bounces between third base and shortstop at Kempner and hits in the middle of the order.

+ RHP Adam Kloffenstein (Magolia HS, TX) has a big frame at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and is committed to Texas Christian. The right-hander pitches from a 3/4 slot with some effort. He runs his fastball up to 93, sitting 89-91, and has down angle on his fastball at times. His slider has short break and ranges from 78-84. 

 

+ RHP Bo Blessie (Midland Lee HS, TX) has electric stuff. His fastball comes in at 92-94 with life, but his best pitch is arguably his slider. A case could be made for it being the best breaking ball in the class at 80-82 with sharp break and above-average spin. 

+ The No. 4 Prospect in Texas is Jonathan Childress (Forney HS), who stands 6-feet-4 inches tall with a 215-pound, projectable, long-limbed frame. The Texas A&M recruit can carve up hitters with his advanced three-pitch mix, headlined by a big curveball that ranges between 77-81 mph. Childress has the ability to beat hitters with three pitches, including an 87-89 mph fastball that tops out at 91. For good measure, he shows feel for an 80-83 mph changeup with cut and sink. All three pitches come out of the same window, and everything out of the hand looks easy. 

 

 

+ 3B Jordan Groshans (Magnolia HS, TX) has a long, strong and projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength. He has a balanced swing with plus right-handed power. The ball easily jumps off his barrel. Groshans looks to be one of the top bats in the 2018 class with his balanced swing and easy right-handed power. Defensively, he has easy glove actions, soft hands, quick footwork with plenty of arm strength to stay on the left side.
