Team Summary

The 2021 Cowboys exceeded expectations in the playoffs, eventually losing in the 4th round to Keller. In the 1st 3 rounds, Coppell took down DFW Powerhouses, Denton Guyer, Jesuit and Prosper.  They were led by two guys offensively that are no longer there, David Jeon (Purdue) and Chayton Krauss (Grayson County), but they have a good core of returners that Head Coach Ryan Howard, is counting on to take the next step.  The player that it all starts with is SS/RHP T.J. Pompey (Texas Tech). The 6'3 Pompey has all the tools necessary to be a superstar, as long as the hit tool takes the next step this year. He is already one of the better defenders in the state, with plus range and more than enough arm to make every play at short. He will also be asked to take on a bigger role on the mound. Pompey can feature a low effort upper 80's fastball and the ability to throw a breaking ball and change up for a strike.
Other Players that Coach Howard is looking for big seasons from are Walker Polk (Baylor). The Power Hitting Switch Hitter has the ability to change the game with one swing of his bat and has produced at a high level for a long time. RHP Will Boylan threw a lot of big innings down the stretch last year.  And proved he could thrive in big moments.  This year, they are looking for him to take the next step as the Program's ace.  The strike throwing Righty throws a mid to upper 80's fastball and an above avg. high spin breaking ball. One player who Coach Howard thinks is really going to take the next step at the plate is INF Tanner Sever. He has always shown a good feel for the barrel, but he has worked on getting into his power more, and is starting to hit the ball with more authority. Sr. Catcher Bradley Castillo is one of the better catch and throw backstops in North Texas. He also had a good season at the plate last year, and is looking to follow up on it.  The one guy who didn't get a ton of AB's last year that I am expecting to make a big impact at the plate is 1B Andrew Schultz.  The LHH has power to all fields and could add some real offensive firepower to the lineup.  The wildcard on the mound for the Cowboys this year is Sr. RHP Landry Fee.  He has missed most of the last year with some arm problems, but looks healthy and ready to contribute and throw some big innings this season.
The Cowboys have a gauntlet for a schedule this year. Their 3 tournaments will provide them a great test and get them ready for one of the toughest districts in the state.  There are no off weeks in district 6-6A, and the tournament schedule should get them ready for the district run and hopefully another extended stay in the playoffs.
