2023 Team Preview: San Marcos Rattlers

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Austin at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 30 teams in the state.

Team Outlook
The San Marcos Rattlers head into the 2023 season with a lot of excitement and expectations. The '22 Rattlers made it to the playoffs last year, this year not only are they expecting to make it, they expect to make a run.
One of the main reasons for optimism for San Marcos is they return 8 starters from last year's team. They are led by Gavin Gomez, the Sr. was pitcher of the year in the district last year and also is a switch hitting outfielder when he isn't on the mound. Gomez has signed to play at Tarleton State. They will also have quality depth behind Gomez. Reagan Chomel was a 2nd team AD pitcher last year as a Soph. and looks to make another jump. The other arm with a lot of experience is Tito Santos. The Texas A&M commit has been a 3 year starter with multiple all district accolades under his belt.
Offensively, the Rattlers will be led by Kutter Gage Webb. The LHH SS is a lockdown defender at short and a sparkplug at the top of the lineup. The Texas State signee plays the game hard and a plus athlete up the middle. Gomez, Chomel and Santos will all be expected to contribute offensively as well. Ryan Hix looks to have another big year in the lineup after an all district performance in '22. Major Pellien, Stephen Wilder, Dallas Calderon, and Sunray Estrada all return to the Rattlers lineup as well after receiving all district recognition last year.
The Rattlers have a talented group with a lot of experience. Coach Webb likes his team this year, and they look to make some noise in Central Texas
