2024 Wildcatters Scout Weekend: Quick Hits
November 21, 2024
TEXAS - Over the weekend, we hosted the Wildcatters Scout Day at CE King High School in Houston, Texas. The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a showcase for all position players under the lights. Players ran a 60, threw from defensive positions and took BP on the field. On Saturday, we began gameplay where the pitchers TrackMan data was recorded. We got to see plenty of quality players, including some fresh faces that made themselves known. Today, we continue coverage of the weeked with a closer look at some of the standouts.
QUICK HITS
Landon Brown RHP / 3B / Iowa Colony, TX / 2026The Mississippi State Commit and Team Texas Future Gamer showed up to Wildcatters Scout Weekend and looked the part of an SEC recruit. He continues to change his body and get more physical and the confidence continues to build each time I see him. He sat in the low 90’s with his fastball during his outing. He has a low ¾ release and shows the ability to really sink the baseball. He throws a slider with sweeper characteristics, as it moves hard horizontally. He also can flash a change that has almost 0 IVB and near 20’’ of HM. He has a starter’s build and repertoire. He can also swing it. He had multiple balls touched near 100 mph exit velocity. He has good bat speed and can drive the ball to all fields. Brown continues his ascent as one of the top players in Texas.

Graham Charboneau OF / RHP / Kingwood, TX / 2026The Baylor Commit has been on a tear in 2024 and it has been fun to see it up close. The Team Texas Future Gamer and State Games participant impressed, and continues to show one of the better hit/power combos in the state. He consistently drives the ball with authority and I think there is more power to come. He has plus bat speed and is a good athlete for his size. He is a 6.7-6.8 runner at 6 ‘2 200 lbs. He has a plus arm from the OF and he even hopped on the mound some and showed a mid 80’s fastball that will easily tick up in the spring. I think Charboneau has a chance to establish himself as one of the top power hitters in the state in 2025.

Lubin Rincon SS / Shadow Creek, TX / 2027Rincon has really made an impression on myself and the Prep Baseball staff the last month. The sophomore shortstop built off his impressive showing at State Games and carried it over to Wildcatters weekend. The projectable 6 ‘’2 LHH SS is an easy mover and ran a 6.69. His actions and arm (90+ inf velo) should make him a no doubter to stick at short long term. At the plate, Rincon has lil wasted movement to go with good rhythm. He has a classic lefty swing and shows the ability to drive the ball with authority to all fields. The upside is immense and will surely become one of the more scouted players gearing up to August 1st of next year.
Oscar Barron LHP / 1B / Channelview, TX / 2026The sophomore lefty got the gameplay started on the bump, and it was really enjoyable watching him pitch. In a day where velo is king and everyone is worried about the number, Barron pitched in the low 80’s, went in and out, up and down, and was in total control the whole time. He threw an above avg. change that got S/M and made the fastball velo play up. Barron may not be the most famous guy on any pitching staff he is on, but he is one I would have a lot of confidence in to win a big game.

Caleb Alexander SS / RHP / Summer Creek, TX / 2027Rankings StateRank: 34 / POS: 9
It has been fun watching Caleb continue to develop, and he showed up to Wildcatters weekend noticeably stronger and more physical. He still has his bounce and speed, running a 6.77 and looks like an up the middle player long term. He showed off a good arm, topping out at 85 across the diamond. In the box, Alexander is starting to get into his power more, and the bat speed is above average. He is one, I am excited to see in the spring and see what jumps he continues to make

Cash Clayton OF / RHP / The Woodlands, TX / 2027Rankings StateRank: 123 / POS: 26
Clayton really impressed me on the weekend. The sophomore from The Woodlands is coming off a freshman year where he had some success at the Varsity level, and looks to make another jump this year. He is an impressive looking athlete, standing at 6 ‘5 195, and moves like a guy that can stick in centerfield long term. He also showed a plus arm, topping out at 95 mph. At the plate, Clayton showed some bat speed and a pretty efficient swing for his size. He had a 2b deep to LC and he is going to continue to grow into more power. Expect Clayton to be a big riser in the next 2027 ranking update.
Christian Hamilton SS / OF / Manvel, TX / 2027I didn’t know Hamilton until this past weekend, but I am excited to get down there and see him again. He started it off by running a sub 7 60, and then took a very impressive round of groundballs during the defensive workout. Easy mover laterally, showed off a good arm, topping out at 88 mph. The other thing that stood out throughout the weekend is he had a good internal clock and just seemed to have natural feel for the game. At the plate, Hamilton showed bat speed and should be a guy that can drive the ball to the gaps and use his athleticism to put pressure on the other team. He still needs to gain some strength, but it was a good first impression.
Jaxon McKnight C / 3B / Atascocita, TX / 2026One thing that really stood out to me about Jaxon all weekend was the fact that he is just a ballplayer. He was all over the field and standing out at each position he went to. He was impressive in the workouts with an 88 mph infield velo to go with a very impressive 82 from behind the plate. He had a pop time as low as 1.92 and all the tools carried over in game. He was impressive blocking and the arm plays back there. He can also hop on the mound and really pitch. He sat in the mid 80’s and showed a quality low 70’s breaker. He has good command of both pitches, and his versatility should be a big asset for a very talented Atascocita team.
David Dagnino SS / 2B / Trinity, TX / 2026I saw Dagnino at the beginning of the fall and he was impressed, and same thing was true last weekend at Wildcatters weekend. David plays the game with good bounce and energy, and you always notice him. He is a 6.7 runner and has an average arm. Probably profiles best at 2nd at the next level, but could play short if need be. He has a short swing and has the chance to hit a lot of doubles. Fun player.
Wyatt Powell RHP / 1B / Lutheran South Academy, TX / 2026Big arm and easy mover down the mound. Fastball was up to 88 and shows life. Needs to improve on the command, but the arm talent is there. He showed feel for spin with a mid 70’s slider. Good frame, starter’s build. Will be out in the spring to see him.
Kevin Rodriguez SS / 2B / Ennis, TX / 2027One of my favorite arms on the weekend was Rodriguez. Up to 87 on the mound, but noticed him throwing across the diamond the night before. Clean arm action with no wasted motion. Good athlete, ran a 6.75. If hit tool can make a jump, he has legit 2 way abilities at the next level, but the arm is there now. Should be a big player for Ennis in the spring.
Collin Martin C / 1B / Grand Oaks, TX / 2026Rankings StateRank: 83 / POS: 11
Has all of the tools to be one of the better backstops in Texas. Physical build with present strength. Has a plus arm behind the plate and shows the ability to handle high end pitching. Needs to continue to work on the little things back there, but its all there. At the plate, it’s big raw power. Need to see him get into it more in game, and work the big part of the field more. If he makes those jumps, he is poised for a monster 2025.
Nomar Torres SS / C / LD Bell, TX / 2026Rankings StateRank: 69 / POS: 22
Torres was a star on Saturday. The catcher from LD Bell showed why he is one of the top uncommitted backstops in Texas. Offensively, he had multiple barrels to all fields, including a double off the LF wall. There is plenty of strength for him to gain still, and I think he should end up with at least avg. power. He is a good receiver of the baseball and plays with good confidence behind the dish. He is the type of guy pitchers want to throw to. His pops were in the 2.0-2.07 range in game and in between innings. He can play other positions as well, which in today's climate of college baseball, becomes more and more appealing.
Jason Dinh SS / 2B / Cypress Ridge, TX / 2026Good athlete who showed well on both sides of the ball. Ran a 6.8 on Friday and showed an average arm. He projects best for 2nd in college, but could play some short if needed. Short compact swing in the box, geared to stay in the big part of the field and drive it to the gaps. Plays with good energy, fun to watch.
Myles Simpson OF / RHP / College Station, TX / 2028Big bodied freshman from College Station that was up to 85/6. Clean arm stroke that he repeated well. As he gains strength, he is going to have a chance to really throw hard. Needs to fall in love with the weight room. Showed the ability to spin it a little bit as well. Will be a big follow in a year.
Tyler Rodriguez C / 3B / New Caney, TX / 2026Had a really good weekend behind the plate and showed well at the plate. The Jr. from New Caney, is a switch hitter who handles the bat well. He can drive the ball out of the ballpark and offers some offensive value from the catcher position. Behind the plate, he showed an average arm with a quick release that got him a pop time best of 1.91. Thought he was one of the better receivers of the baseball on the weekend. Overall, a very good showing
Peter Hebert 3B / RHP / Stratford, TX / 2028Only a 2028, Hebert has one of the cleaner arms and deliveries you are going to see. He is only 80-81 right now, but he is going to throw really hard in a year or so. He can really sink it as well. Struggles with strikes right now, but I am not worried about it, I think he is going to pitch at a high level. Slow heartbeat. Was also impressive behind the plate.
