Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Boyd Yellowjackets are coming off an impressive 35-win season in 2024 that saw them fall in the Regional Semifinals. Entering 2025, they bring back a ton of talent from that same team and look to make it back to State while relying on a stout pitching staff and what could be a deeper lineup.

Starting with the pitching staff, the Yellowjackets will be led by sophomore RHP Will McIntire, who is the reigning District Newcomer of the Year and is also the son of Head Coach Brad McIntire. McIntire had a stellar freshman season on the bump for Boyd in 2024, striking out 72 batters over 39 innings, while also posting a 0.35 ERA. McIntire is currently ranked inside the top-25 in the Lone Star State, as well as No. 182 nationally, so he is an arm our staff will be watching closely this spring. Another arm returning for the Yellowjackets in 2025 is junior RHP Elijah Webber, who was Second Team All-District last spring while posting a 2.25 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 32 innings. Webber, currently ranked No. 81 in the state, is another arm our staff is familiar with after he showed well at the recent Texas State Games: Upperclass. At the event, he showed an upper-80’s fastball (T89 mph) paired with a downer-type breaking ball with some feel to spin. Lastly, keep an eye out for senior RHP Evan Salinas to help spearhead the pitching staff in 2025 after he punched out 32 batters over 31 innings with a 0.87 ERA, helping earn him Second Team All-District last season.

Offensively, the Yellowjackets will be paced by reigning First Team All-District SS Jax Heid (2025; Yavapai College). Heid drove in 42 runs last spring while batting .439 for the Yellowjackets and should again be a key cog in the lineup in 2025. Senior 3B Landon Snider and Junior OF Colton Patton are two All-District players returning to Boyd’s lineup in 2025. Snider batted over .300 last spring en route to a Second Team designation, while Patton batted .417 with three homers to earn First Team designation in 2024. Rounding out the Yellowjacket offense in 2025 will be the aforementioned McIntire and Webber, as well as seniors JT Sullivan and Jaydan McPhearson, and Junior Keelan Clary.

Some sophomores of note for Boyd in 2025 that will be varsity newcomers are C/RHP Stephen Webber, UTL/RHP Major Jennings, and RHP/MIF Braden McGee. Webber and Jennings will look to contribute on the offensive side for the Yellowjackets, while McGee could potentially see time on the mound in 2025.

Overall, Head Coach Brad McIntire and his reigning District Coaching Staff of the Year will have another strong team to put on the field this spring. Their pitching staff is both talented and deep with quality arms, while their returning lineup is equally strong. They have a quality mix of veterans and youth that should help Coach McIntire continue to have a strong program for this season and future seasons to come. Look for the Yellowjackets to be 3A title contenders again this spring, after winning it all just two years ago.
