TEAM OUTLOOK

Head Coach Austin Yager and the Buda Johnson Jaguars are poised for a promising campaign in 2025. Following an 18-16-1 record in 2024 that culminated in a Bi-District finish, the Jaguars aim to build on that foundation with a roster packed with depth, which should be their strength this spring. With a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, Johnson is well-positioned to potentially make a deeper playoff run in 2025.

Anchoring the lineup is catcher Ricky Montijo, a 2024 Honorable Mention All-District player committed to Temple JC. Montijo’s leadership behind the plate will be pivotal. Outfielder Thomas Schnabel, a 2024 First Team All-District selection heading to Abilene Christian, brings a dynamic bat and excellent defensive range - evidenced by his 6.67 60 time. Versatile LHP/UTL Mason Alaniz, also a 2024 First Team All-District honoree, remains uncommitted but promises to contribute both on the mound - where he earned his All-District honors, and at the plate in 2025. The future is bright for the Jaguars, with standout underclassmen such as unanimous First Team All-District infielder Selvin Garrett (2027) and Honorable Mention All-District RHP Reed Dierschke (2027). Newcomers like Joseph Cardona Jr. (1B/OF) and Parker George (OF/RHP), both members of the 2027 class, will add fresh energy and versatility to the lineup.

With a strong core of returning talent and new faces eager to make an impact, the Jaguars will lean on their depth to navigate the 2025 season. Coach Yager’s squad will be one to watch all spring as they look to make a deeper playoff run in the state’s 6A class.
