The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The 2025 Frenship Tigers, under the guidance of Head Coach Chad Reynolds, is poised for another successful season following a stellar 27-10-1 record and a playoff finish in the Area round in 2024. The Tigers will lean on their senior leadership in 2025, as that is likely to be their team strength this spring. With a strong mix of veterans and promising newcomers, Frenship is set to make another playoff run in the highly competitive 6A class.

The Tigers will lean heavily on their top returning players, beginning with INF Holden Phillips (Angelo State commit), who was a 2024 First Team All-District selection. Phillips, an Angelo State pledge and current No. 176 player in Texas, should bring a steady presence to the Tigers lineup in 2025 and is someone who can play anywhere in the infield. RHP Weston Reynolds (Blinn JC commit), along with LHPs Braxton Neel and Lyle McChesney, form a strong pitching core that gives Frenship reliable arms on the mound. OF Hunter Hicks (Kansas City Kansas CC commit) adds depth to the outfield and offensive lineup, while uncommitted seniors Colton Holland and Nick Mendoza, along with versatile 2026 standout Kolton Christie—2024 District Newcomer of the Year—provide further balance and athleticism. This experienced group should set the tone for the younger talent coming up through the program.

Complementing the veteran leadership is a talented crop of newcomers eager to make an impact. UTL players Mason Fritz and Brody Prather, along with OF Zade McClure, are part of the Tigers’ sophomore class and should add versatility to the roster. The Tigers are also excited about CIF/OF Payton Archibald, a freshman (2028) who already showcased his potential by competing in the 2024 Prep Baseball Junior Future Games for Team Illinois. Archibald swings a heavy barrel from the left side and has the versatility to play a corner infield or corner outfield spot, if he need-be for the Tigers this spring. With such a dynamic blend of experience and youth, Frenship has all the tools necessary to contend for a district title and beyond in 2025, and look for the Tigers to be a strong team in the state’s 6A class once again.
