TEAM OUTLOOK

The Grapevine Mustangs, led by head coach Jimmy Webster, enter the 2025 season riding high after an incredible 2024 campaign that saw them finish 40-5 as District Champions and State Champions. With a core of experienced and athletic players returning, Grapevine looks poised to defend its state title and continue its dominance on the diamond. Coach Webster’s squad will combine seasoned veterans and emerging talent, creating a well-rounded and competitive team again for 2025.

Athleticism and experience will be the strength of this year’s Mustangs. Returning standout Brady Boozer (Navarro JC) brings a steady bat and reliable defense in the outfield, while Jarett Boswell (Odessa JC), the reigning District MVP and All-State honoree, provides power and leadership at first base. Colin Park, a versatile infielder, will add depth and consistency, while the dynamic duo of Gianni Corral (2026 District Defensive MVP) behind the plate and Lale Esquivel (2024 First Team All-District) at third base fortifies the infield. Two-way talent Zack Goldstein (2024 First Team All-District) gives Grapevine flexibility with his left-handed pitching and strong outfield play. OF Jack Pettigrew (Southwestern) is another bat to know in the Mustangs' lineup, and should provide added stability to the offense.

The Mustangs also boast a promising group of newcomers ready to make an immediate impact. Right-handers Benjamin Chen (Modesto JC), Sam DuRard (Centenary), and Blaine Swartz (NOCTONK) deepen the pitching staff, while Connor Ray (2027) steps in as a promising young shortstop. Freshman phenom Luke Esquivel (LSU commit) will be a key player to watch, bringing both pitching and hitting depth to the team. His unique combination of size, skill, and maturity could make him a significant contributor early in his high school career.

With a mix of proven leaders, exciting newcomers, and future stars, Grapevine’s 2025 outlook is as bright as ever. The Mustangs’ combination of athleticism, experience, and talent positions them as heavy favorites to repeat as state champions. Coach Webster’s squad will likely be the team to beat in the state’s 5A class again in 2025.
