2025 High School Team Preview: Houston Bellaire

Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

Our 2025 preseason coverage continues today.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Bellaire Cardinals and Head Coach Nick Ozuna look to make a deeper playoff run in the state’s 6A class in 2025 after an early exit last season. Coach Ozuna’s squad will rely on their pitching, defense, and 17 seniors to get them where they want to go this spring.

Of those 17 seniors, the Cardinals bring back four in particular who earned All-District honors a season ago in RHP/SS Andrew Brown (2nd Team), RHP/CIF Dom Ozuna (1st Team), INF/RHP Vincent Ozuna (2nd Team), and OF Alejandro Trinidad (1st Team). Brown and the Ozuna brothers will look to spearhead the pitching staff in 2025. Dom Ozuna was a recent participant at our South Texas Upperclass Uncommitted Games, where he showed a 4-seam type fastball up to 82 mph, paired with a short curveball that he landed for strikes consistently.

The four mentioned above will also contribute in the lineup, as more bats develop over the course of the season. However, the Cardinals will be eager to see how newcomers LHP/OF Reid Flowers (2027) and OF/INF Carlos Nossa (2027) can contribute to the team in 2025, as Flowers could also potentially factor on the mound for Bellaire.

Overall, it is hard to overlook a team that will have 17 seniors this upcoming spring as typically older teams win at the high school level. Their pitching and defense should keep them in most of their games, as their offense continues to develop over the course of the season. With an older team mixed with some infusion of youth on the roster, look for the Cardinals to be a tough team to play come postseason time.
