Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

SEMLER’S PROSPECT TO FOLLOW

Landon Brown, RHP, 2026: Sturdy build, will add strength. Arm works with arm speed present. FB showing arm side tail, carry up in zone. FB touching 93, works 89-91. Flashes feel for slider action. Change with fade. Will continue to add velo in future.”

TEAM OUTLOOK

Head Coach Brent Wuthrich and Iowa Colony enter the 2025 season with high expectations following a solid 19-12 campaign in 2024 that culminated in a Bi-District round finish. With experience and pitching/defense as the cornerstones of the team, the Pioneers are poised to build on last year's success and contend for a deeper playoff run in 2025. Anchored by a talented core of returning players and promising young talent, Iowa Colony’s depth and versatility will be key to their success throughout the season.

The returning roster is highlighted by a strong group of underclassmen who already boast significant accolades. Senior Jeremiah Brown (Dillard commit) provides leadership and versatility as a two-way standout, earning Second Team All-District honors in 2024. Juniors Jayden Felder (uncommitted) and Matthew Christopoulos (uncommitted), both First Team All-District selections, bring dynamic offense and defensive reliability, while fellow junior Landon Brown (Mississippi State commit), the reigning District Co-Offensive MVP, will anchor the lineup and be a key piece on the mound as well. Rising sophomore Carson White (2027) rounds out the returning award winners, adding speed and consistency in the outfield.

Adding to the excitement is the influx of new talent, including INF/RHP Rudy Mendieta (2026; uncommitted), who brings versatility and potential to both the infield and pitching staff. A promising crop of freshmen, headlined by INF Levi Abrego, UTL/RHP Kalen Simmons, INF/RHP Julian Trainor, and LHP Kyle Guillot, adds depth and showcases the program's bright future. With a balanced blend of experienced veterans and high-upside newcomers, the Pioneers are well-equipped to challenge for a district title and potentially make noise in the playoffs this spring.
