The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Plainsmen and Head Coach Ralph Ramon enter the 2025 season after making a run to the 5A Regional Quarterfinals in 2024. The Plainsmen are poised to improve upon last year’s 18-19-1 record with a blend of seasoned returners and promising newcomers. Monterey will look to lean on their pitching and defense this spring to take them where they want to go as a team.

Leading the charge are several key returning players from the 2025 class, including Kannon Peters and infielders Bryce Alexander and Brent Sanders, all of whom remain uncommitted at this time. Younger talent like Joaquin Maldonado and two-way Lincoln Lamm (2026) add versatility, while Nate Dickinson, another two-way, will be in the mix as well. The Plainsmen will also benefit from the athleticism and potential of rising underclassmen such as Jaivyth Cruz (2027), who stood out last season as a freshman. Bolstering the roster are exciting new faces, including RJ Laurent and Jamiah Martinez from the 2027 class, along with a highly regarded group of freshmen headlined by Ashton Castillo and Nate DeLeon. With a balanced squad, Monterey has the tools to emerge as a district contender and a tough out in the postseason.
