TEAM OUTLOOK

Head Coach Orlando Ruiz and the W.B. Ray Texans are poised for another strong campaign in 2025, building on their 2024 record of 18-13-1 and a Bi-District finish. The Texans’ strengths should be their hitting and defense this season and it will be key to their aspirations of making a deeper playoff run this season. Returning a wealth of talent, W.B. Ray combines experienced upperclassmen with promising young newcomers, creating a balanced and competitive roster.

The team’s offensive and defensive core centers around standout SS/RHP Lucas Tinajero, the reigning 2024 District MVP committed to Wharton JC. Utility player Dom Soliz and 1B/RHP Raul Trevino (Texas A&M Int.) add versatility and flexibility, while outfielders Derek Chavez, Aiden Ortiz (the 2024 Designated Hitter of the Year), and RJ Macias add depth to the outfield. Junior Josh Hernandez (UTSA commit) will anchor the defense behind the plate while providing consistency with the bat. With INF Ethan Garza, a 2027 First Team All-District selection, and 3B/RHP Orlando Ruiz Jr., a Second Team All-District honoree, the Texans boast a deep and capable lineup.

The infusion of talent from top newcomers like C/UTL Jeremiah Garza, SS/UTL Carlos Luna, and OF/LHP George Batchelor ensures that the future is bright for W.B. Ray. These young players are expected to contribute immediately and provide depth to an already dynamic team. With their blend of experienced leadership and rising stars, the Texans are ready to compete for a district title and aim for a deeper playoff run in 2025.
