Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2025 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Weatherford Kangaroos and Head Coach Jason Lee look to build off their 2024 season that saw them win 26 games and earn a postseason berth. The Kangaroos will look to rely on their defense and team speed this spring, while bringing back eight players who earned All-District honors in 2024.

Weatherford brings back three players in particular who were First Team All-District last season in RHP/SS Colton McClure (2025; Amarillo JC), OF Nacho Boone (2025; uncommitted), and OF/UTL Kaddilac Galindo (2026; uncommitted). McClure, currently ranked No. 264 in the state, will look to lead the Kangaroos’ pitching staff in 2025 after a stellar season last spring where he struck out 67 batters over 45.2 innings pitched paired with a 1.53 ERA. Boone batted .333 with five doubles, two triples, and one homer in 2024, and will likely man centerfield for the Kangaroos this year. Galindo also batted over .300 last spring and will help in the outfield and could also spend time on the infield this spring.

Also returning on the offensive side of the ball is UTL/INF Bryce Smith (2025; Ranger JC), 1B/UTL Ayden Thomas (2025; uncommitted), and C Jett Vindiola (2026; Kansas State. Smith batted .343 last spring en route to being named the District’s Utility Player of the Year. Thomas earned Second Team All-District honors in 2024, and will look to help pace the Kangaroos offense in his senior year. Vindiola, currently ranked No. 36 in the state and No. 345 in the country, was Third Team All-State as well as the District’s Newcomer of the Year. Vindiola will likely do the majority of the catching for Weatherford this spring, and help continue to bring along the pitching staff.

On the mound, seniors RHP/MIF Rhys Vindiola (Grayson JC) and RHP/3B Caiden Hubbard (Southeastern Oklahoma) are back in 2025 after each earned Honorable Mention All-District last spring. Vindiola posted a 3.63 ERA over 17 innings of work, while Hubbard posted a 1.31 ERA over 21.1 innings. Look for varsity newcomer RHP/CIF Cutter Kennedy (2027) to potentially factor into the 2025 pitching staff as well.

A pair of underclassmen to know on the offensive side of the ball are junior OF Logan Chaix and freshman INF Luke Couch. Chaix is a prospect our staff is familiar with after recently attending our Texas State Games: Underclass. At the event, Chaix showed to be an upside right-handed bat to continue to follow in the future, while showing to have some present ability already in the outfield.

After an early postseason exit in 2024, look for Weatherford to potentially make a deeper postseason run this spring. Their defense and team speed will present challenges for opposing teams, while their pitching staff should have a strong foundation to build upon this spring considering what they bring back there. C Jett Vindiola will likely be the team’s x-factor this spring both with what he does behind the dish and with the bat. Overall, look for the Kangaroos to be a tough out in the 6A postseason this year.
