Battle of the Borders Notes: 2019's

The Battle of the Borders took place Sept. 9-11 at Quick Trip Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. The tournament hosted six teams from five states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico. All levels of high school were represented with players ranging from the 2017 class to 2020. Here are nine of the top sophomores from Texas that competed in this event.

Austin Wallace, LHP/OF, Flower Mound HS
Texas commit. 6-foot-3, 190-pound, strong build. Offensively had a good set-up and gets ready to hit with small leg kick and good hand load. In three at-bats he hammered a ball to third base and was a 4.52 down the line; drew a walk, and hit a groundball to shortstop with a 4.69 home-to-first.

Elijah McCormack, RHP, Coppell HS
6-foot-3, 165-pound, wiry frame. Worked from a high-3/4 slot with whippy arm action. Pitched with his fastball at 84-87 mph, sitting mostly 85 mph. He showed a slider that ranged from 70-73 mph.

Mason Greer, IF/RHP, Colleyville Heritage HS
6-foot, 190-pound frame. Strong body with broad shoulders and well defined lower half. Pitched in short relief from a ¾ slot. His fastball was 82-84 mph and his slider was 71 mph with sweeping action. Offensively the young left-handed hitter showed strength in swing on two base hits and a fly ball to deep left field. His fastest home-to-first time was a 4.44. Showed the ability to handle the bat by putting the ball in play in every at-bat the first two days.

Francisco Hernandez, RHP, Laredo Alexander HS
6-foot-4, 185-pound frame, strong lean build. Worked from a ¾ slot with an athletic delivery. He threw his fastball 83-85 mph, curveball 68 mph and changeup 79 mph.

Kaden Teafatiller, C, Wichita Falls Rider HS
6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. Athletic runner with long strides. He showed good arm strength from behind the plate. Offensively, he went 1-for-3 in the first game with a base hit up the middle and a hard ground ball to second. Game 2 he was 1-for-3 with a base hit to center field and a hard line drive to right field.

Nicholas Balsano, C, Colleyville Heritage HS
6-foot, 180-pound frame. Pop time was 2.09-2.2. He showed an aggressive approach at the plate, putting good swings on balls that were in the zone early in count. He also had a hard base hit to right field.

Chase Lumus, LHP/1B, Godley HS
Texas commit. 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame. In the two at-bats he had a walk and hard hit RBI single up the middle.

Lee McPhail, LHP, Southwest HS
6-foot-4, 175-pound long lean body. Threw his fastball 82-87 mph.

Sean Bolin, RHP, Argyle HS
6-foot-6, 170-pound, lean frame. He worked from a low-3/4 slot throwing his fastball 80-82 mph. Interesting arm to follow.

Jake Cosner, LHP/OF, Prosper HS, 2019.
5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. He worked from a high-3/4 slot with his fastball sitting 79-80 mph and throwing his curveball at 72 mph.
