Our staff is working to become the #1 news source for Prep Baseball across the state of Texas. Remember to follow us on twitter (@PBR_Texas) and reach out to us with any news, commitments, or your upcoming workout and game schedule. We are hosting four EVENTS this winter to allow players the opportunity to be evaluated by our staff with video, scouting reports and verified statistics.

Since the launch of Prep Baseball Report Texas, our staff has been all over the state covering games and evaluating players. We recently released our first ranking with the 2018 class. This week we will be releasing our coverage of the 2019 class. Here are the top uncommitted sophomore pitchers from the fall.

TOP 2019 UNCOMMITTED PITCHERS

Connor Phillips, RHP, Magnolia West HS
6-foot-1, 170-pound lean frame. Works from a high-¾ slot with long, clean arm action. His fastball ranged from 84-86 mph in the first four innings. Fastball has some arm-side run and sink. He showed good command moving the fastball around the zone and locating on both sides of the plate. Did a good job controlling the running game posting 1.1-1.2 home-to-the-plate times out of the stretch. In the fifth inning he was still sitting 83 mph with his fastball. Threw one slider at 77 mph.

Reed Smith, RHP/C, Cy-Fair HS
5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Works mostly from high-¾ slot but will occasionally drop down to a side-arm slot. From the high-¾ slot his fastball ranges from 82-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph with some arm side run and sink. His breaking ball ranges from 71-73 mph with good 11-5 shape. From the side-arm slot the fastball velocity stays in the 82-83 mph range, while the slider turns to a slurve with lateral break away from right-handed hitters at 68-69 mph. Good all around feel for pitching, throws strikes, commands two pitches and holds runners. Smith topped out at 87 mph during the outfield portion of the workout and posted 88 mph on his exit velo.

Evan Godwin, LHP/1B, Cy-Fair HS
6-foot, 165-pound strong frame. Projectable frame with broad shoulders and long arms. Fastball sits 81-82 mph with some two-seam, arm-side run. The changeup was his best offspeed pitch at 74 mph with good arm-side fade and depth. Throws a larger shape curveball that has good depth at 69-72 mph. The left-handed hitter was on the barrel during games with a big double off the wall to right-center field. He has a tall open stance with relaxed rhythm and very natural left handed swing with pop. His defensive actions at first base are advanced for his age showing solid footwork around the bag, plays low on ground balls and has a good quick exchange with clean arm stroke registering 82 mph. He registered a top velocity of 86 mph from the outfield workout. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash.

Justin Barnes, RHP/OF, Klein Oak HS
6-foot-1, 180-pound frame. Works from ¾ slot with long, quick arm action. Athletic delivery with good hip turn as he gets down the mound, solid ability to repeat this move from windup and stretch. Fastball ranged from 81-84 with some arm-side run and sink. Threw one slider at 75 mph with 10-4 slurve-type action. Barnes also threw well from the outfield posting 86, 89 and 90 mph during the workout. He ran a 7.3 60-yard dash.

Tyler Morgan, RHP, Marcus HS
6-foot, 150-pound frame. Works from a ¾ slot with a quick delivery. Locates the fastball at 81-82 mph. The slider is a solid pitch at 73-74 with slurve-type action. Has a good feel for the strike zone and holds runners well changing his times to the plate and mixing in his move to first base.

Blake Mayfield, RHP, Marcus HS
6-foot, 145-pound projectable frame. Works from a high-¾ slot with long clean arm action. Showed advanced feel for both fastball and slider in his first bullpen session of the fall. Only put the gun up for one fastball at 82 mph.

Sean Bolin, RHP, Argyle HS
6-foot-6, 175-pound wiry, projectable frame. Worked from a ¾ slot with long arm action and up-tempo delivery. He seemed to be on the side of the ball with his fastball having some lateral cutter-type action at 82-84 mph. His curveball was 66-68 mph with 10-4 spin

Francisco Hernandez, RHP, Laredo Alexander HS
6-foot-4, 185-pound frame, strong lean build. Worked from a ¾ slot with an athletic delivery. He threw his fastball 83-85 mph, curveball 68 mph and changeup 79 mph.
