Flower Mound vs. Plano West

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

FLOWER MOUND, TX - This was our second year covering the preseason scrimmage between the Flower Mound Jaguars and Plano West Wolves. The scouting advantage is getting to see almost every arm in the arsenal for both teams, along with a slew of position players. The weekend saturation cleared the way for blue skies and green grass that was nicely groomed by the Jags coaching staff. Coach Wallace’s club is in on a mission this year, and Coach Clark’s Wolves want to continue the momentum built from last season.

2019 LHP Austin Wallace (Flower Mound HS) had a quality four inning stint to start the evening. Ranked No. 63 in the state, the Texas commit has a durable frame with strength throughout at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds. Working from a ¾ slot with a medium arm stroke, the left-hander was 86-87 in his first two innings of work, topping out once at 89 mph. Struck out the side in the first, working around a bloop single and two walks. His fastball has good run to his arm side, and he can cut it into right-handed hitters on his glove side. Slider was solid with 2/8 shape at 70-73 and is an effective pitch to both left and right-handed hitters. Throws a plus changeup with good arm speed and fade at 74 mph. He can double up on it and use it for weak contact early in the count, or a punchout late. Was still 83-85 in the fourth, and struck out the side in two of his four innings.
