Houston Episcopal vs. Sweeny

SWEENY, TX - Houston Episcopal traveled down to Sweeny to take on the Sweeny Bulldogs for a little Spring Break action.
Episcopal had 2020 RHP/SS Tanner Witt (No. 5 in 2020 PBR Texas rankings and No. 22 in 2020 PBR overall rankings, committed to Texas) on the mound for the start. Witt threw three scoreless innings, allowing no runs on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Tanner and his brother Preston Witt (committed to Southwestern University) were in the middle of Episcopal’s two-run 1st inning.
Tanner singled and then Preston doubled before 2021 3B/OF Bennett Hanks brought them both in with a single to centerfield. Episcopal scored their 3rd run in the 2nd on a two-out single from 2020 C Max Madison scoring 2021 OF Raffi Gross.
2019 RHP Parker Siegel came in relief for Tanner Witt in the 4th and finished the rest of the game. He allowed no runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout. Siegel mixed his pitches well and kept Sweeny way off balanced forcing soft fly balls and grounders.
Both of Sweeny’s two hits were from 2019 IF Braden Norris (committed to University of St. Thomas). On the mound, Sweeny was led by 2019 RHP Nathan Nance. Nance went the complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Tanner Witt, RHP/SS, Houston Episcopal, 2020
Texas commit. Estimated 6-foot-5, 200-pound athletic frame, and high waist. The right-hander throws a high ¾ slot with a long arm swing and repeatable, smooth delivery. His fastball was 87-88 mph, touching 89 mph in the 1st and settled in at 85-86 mph in the 2nd and 3rd. Had a couple walks early but was able to command fastball at the bottom of the zone as the outing went on. Flashed a two-seamer at 84-85 mph with good arm side run into righties. Also flashed a big breaking 11-5 curveball at 67-71 mph, using it primarily against RHH's. Offensively, Witt made hard contact and showed a smooth hack with dialed in approach.
