The inaugural Prep Baseball Report I-10 Border Battle at Lamar University took place on Monday, January 16th. The event was open to all 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 high school graduates. Here's a quick look at some highlights from the day.

+ Jackson Loftin, SS, Klein Collins HS, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound, strong, athletic frame. At shortstop, Loftin showed advanced action all around with smooth footwork, clean exchanges in the midline of his body, and good arm-action with clean release and accuracy. Offensively, the right-handed hitter starts from a neutral stance and pushes back into a smooth leg kick while moving his hands with rhythm. Lands athletically at foot-strike and has good weight transfer in his lower half.

+ Reed Smith, RHP, Cy-Fair HS, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with long, loose arm action. Creates good leverage with lower half hip turn down the mound with an aggressive delivery. His fastball ranged from 86-88 mph with some life at the bottom of the zone. Smith has good feel for his slider at 74-75 mph, and throws his changeup 73-74 mph.

+ John Tyler Mounce, OF, Cypress Christian, 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound, wiry-strong, athletic frame. Mounce was impressive all around, starting the day with 6.85 60-yard dash. The sophomore threw 86 mph from the outfield with good carry, accuracy and clean arm action. The left-handed hitter starts from a tall, neutral stance with a slight bat wrap. Gets started with a short stride, lands balanced, and has good barrel awareness.

+ Parker Moye, LHP/OF, Evadale, 2019
6-foot-2, 230-pound, strong frame. The uncommitted sophomore left-hander works from a high-¾ slot with long arm action. His fastball ranged from 84-87 mph with his slider ranging from 71-72 mph.

+ Sam Olayinka, OF, North Garland HS, 2017
6-foot-3, 190-pound, long, wiry-strong frame. The unsigned senior put together a solid all around day, throwing 91 mph from the outfield with a long, loose arm-stroke, and running a 6.9 60-yard dash. Olayinka has long strides and shows athleticism in the outfield.
