Inside the 2022 Rankings - LHP

TEXAS - As we take a dive a little deeper into the rankings, lets take a look at the top ranked LHP in the 2022 class. Here is a glance at a few of the arms in the top 10.

The top spot is held by Griffin HerringHerring throws the FB to both sides of the plate at 86-89 mph showing a tough angle into RHH when he got it in there as well as heavy arm side action when pitching to his arm side. The change up at times showed plus getting lots of swings and misses at 81-83 mph. Herring’s breaking ball plays between a cutter and a slider and at times will show some depth but more consistently shows side to side action.

The No. 3 spot is occupied by Justin Lamkin. 6-foot-3, 200-pound durable frame yet still looks like it will add quality size and strength down the line. The left-hander has a long arm path, and finds his high ¾ slot consistently. Lamkin has a  breaking ball that spins right and will continue to improve as he continues to develop hand speed, and also throws a quality changeup thrown with good arm speed and arm side action. The three-pitch mix allows him to profile as a starter at the next level, and given the ease of the delivery a jump in velocity seems likely soon.

Coming in at No. 5 spot is TCU Commit, Ben Abeldt. He is a high waisted lefty with a lot of filling out to do. His delivery is low stress and very very clean. 3/4 slot with some slight cross fire in his delivery, but repeats it well. FB was 87-90 T 91 who can get glove side to righties and also faded it off the plate when he goes arm side. CH is his current best off speed pitch. Pretty good arm speed and shows similar action to his arm side fastball. Breaking ball is behind the rest but when the velo picks up ok the pitch it shows some promise and potential for an average pitch down the road. Exciting future for Abeldt, could look back this time next year and see a lefty touching 94-95

Shane Sdao is the lone uncommitted arm in the top 10, and comes in at No. 9. The Tall, lanky, projectable LHP has made a big velo jump over the past year now sitting 86-88 T89 and hitting 87-88 consistently throughout the outing. The fastball spin is up to 2376 rpm getting lots of swings and misses on the FB at the top of the zone. CB 72-74 with slurve action and swing and miss ability. Lots of room on his frame to grow, will be an exciting arm to watch moving forward.
