SAN ANTONIO – The Johnson Jaguar and O’Connor Panthers met up at Alamo Heights to begin the second round Region 4 playoffs. Both teams sent their aces to the hill, LHP Richard Gilbert (Texas Tech commit) for Johnson, and RHP Weston Smith (Baylor commit) for O’Connor.

The first two innings were relatively quick, but the game broke wide open in the third inning. The top of the inning saw O’Connor put two runs on the board after a two-out hit by a pitch. Sterling Malish singled and Bo Gonzalez walked to load the bases before Brandon Butler smoked a ball into right field for a 2-RBI double. Gilbert ended the inning with a strikeout.

The Johnson bats answered back in a big way in the bottom of the inning, tacking up nine runs on five hits, three of which were doubles from Derek Martinez, Hunter Wall, and A.J. Garcia.  The Jaguars were silenced in the fourth inning, but came back in the fifth to score three more runs. Dalton Shuffield (Texas State commit) hit a two-run home run and Jorge Collazo hit an RBI single to score Jake Sims.

The Jaguars 12-2 victory put them in the driver’s seat as the series moves to UTSA’s field on Friday.
