Junior Future Games Team Spotlight

LAKEPOINT - Today, we wrap our coverage of the Junior Future Games with the full breakdown of the Texas JFG team. 

Juan Diego Amescua

Amescua was one of the most consistent players all week. He made plays all over the infield while having 3 hits with a triple and 5 RBI at the plate. Amescua also jumped on the bump during the championship game going 2 scoreless IP up to 81. 

 

 

 

Luke Billings

After spending the first part of the event with Future Games team, Billings joined the JFG team and took the ball to start the quarterfinals against Missouri. FB was up to 87 sitting 84-85 getting swing and miss at top of the zone while mixing in a 67-68 CB and 75 CH. He looked the part at the plate as well going 3-7 in 3 games with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. 

 

Matthew Boughton

Boughton made numerous plays throughout the event no matter where he was on the field. On the final alone, he made 6 different eye-catching plays that were impressive but also made a difference in the game at those moments. At the plate, he came through at the clutch moments when needed most. He had 3 hits including a double with 3 RBI including a RBI single that tied the game against Missouri before Texas took the lead for good in that game. Lots to like all around in Boughton’s game. 

 

Aiden Brantley

Brantley shined on the mound to finish the tournament. He finished off the semifinals against Nevada and then started the championship going 4 scoreless IP total with 2 K on 47 pitches total. He filled up the zone to both sides of the plate with his fastball that was up to 84 sitting 81-83 getting soft contact while mixing in his off speed some. At the plate, his OBP was .455 getting walked once and hit by pitch 3 times while also leading the team with 2 stolen bases. Brantley also made a really nice double play coming across the bag from SS as he fielded the ball. 

 

Blaine Bullard

Bullard was your prototypical lead off hitter at the top of the order. Bullard was 3-6 with a double, 2 RBI, 4 runs scored and 2 BB. Bullard had numerous productive AB’s throughout the event. He also finished off the final pool game on the bump, going 3 IP allowing 1 run with 3 K. FB 76-78 with strikes to both sides while mixing in two off speeds, CB 66-68 & CH 70-71, showing good feel at times for CB. He played a solid CF as well throughout. 

 

 

 

LJ Carrillo

Carrillo grinded through his AB’s the entire event, walking 4 times in his 10 plate appearances. Behind the plate, he was a vocal leader for the defense and a calming presence for the pitchers. He also displayed quick actions throwing out the 1 runner who tried to run on him. 

 

Jake Fults

Fults began the tournament with a very quality outing against West Virginia going 4.2 IP allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts. FB sat 79-82 throughout the outing while CB 73-74 & CH 74 throwing strikes with all 3 pitches. Competed at the plate all week long despite the results but had a huge triple tying the game against Missouri in the quarterfinals and then scoring the go-ahead run.  

 

 

 

Jack Jorgenson

Jorgenson got the start against Wisconsin in pool play and had a quality outing. FB sat 80-82 T83 with strikes to both sides, CB 71-75 and CH 71-72. Escaped the 1st leaving the bases loaded before cruising through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. Finished the outing going 4.1 IP with 7 K. 

 

Asher Levy

Levy got the start in the semifinals against Nevada. He went 2 IP allowing 1 R while striking out the side in the 2nd. FB was 75-78 with strikes to both sides of the plate with a 61-64 CB that he flashed landing in the zone for a strike. Levy also contributed at the plate with 2 hits in the first game of the event while also having 3 RBI. 

 

 

 

Brody Mattox

Mattox was a clutch hitter in the middle of the lineup all week long. Any time we got a rally going, Mattox was in the middle of it either getting it started or driving in runs. He was tied for the team-lead with 5 RBI on the week while leading the team in doubles with 4. Mattox showed throughout the week he could drive the pitch no matter where in the zone it was. He came in to relieve twice and was up to 81 closing out the first game of the tourney. 

 

Ronin McCraw

One of our two 2026’s on the team, McCraw played quality baseball all week long. He made plays all over the field, including a nice diving play in the outfield to prevent runs from scoring against Missouri. McCraw also grinded out at-bats throughout the tournament going 3-12 with a double and 2 RBI. Also went 2.2 scoreless IP finishing the game against Wisconsin keeping the team in the hunt to win the pool. 

 

Xavier Mitchell

Mitchell got the start on the bump against Pennsylvania to finish off pool play. FB up to 80 getting swing and miss while CB was 63-66 playing off of the FB well. Long, projectable frames with clean arm actions and lots to like. Also had 4 hits including a double and triple with 2 RBI and scoring 3 of his own along with a stolen base. Mitchell displayed a versatile skill set throughout the event. 

 


 

Mitchell Morton

Morton was the one of the most consistent players for the week. He led the team going 5-8 along with 6 walks for a .846 OBP. He also threw out 2 runners during the week displaying good arm strength. Morton was another key contributor in the middle of the lineup all week long, will be a catcher to keep your eye on he continues to develop.  

 

Jody Murillo

Murillo was a key contributor in the middle of the lineup during the run through bracket play. On Sunday, he had 3 of his 4 hits for the event including a double. Murillo also finished the Missouri game on the mound, going 3 scoreless IP with 4 K while stranding runners in scoring position in each inning. FB 76-77 getting swing and miss at the top of zone with CB 64-66 flashing ability to land it in the zone and get swing and miss. Murillo was very impressive grinding through those innings keeping the team in a position to come from behind and advance to next round. 

 


 

Joshua Viars

Our other 2026 on the team, Viars played a utility role on the team, playing infield, outfield, and catcher. Viars was 3-9 with a double, RBI, and a walk. Viars played steady defense at each spot he was at all week long. Gonna be a fun player to watch develop in this 2026 class.
