AUSTIN - The UIL Playoffs are underway this week, with the first games beginning on Wednesday. The Lake Travis Cavaliers hosted the Smithson Valley Rangers in the first game of a best of three bi-district matchup.

The game was a pitcher’s duel early on. Jimmy Lewis followed up a no-hitter in his last outing with another impressive performance on Wednesday. He yielded only three hits on the night, only one of which made it out of the infield. He also punched out 11 in his six innings of work. Smithson Valley’s starter, 2019 RHP Max Kloberdanz, also threw well early to keep his team in the game, only allowing one run through the first four innings of the game.

The Lake Travis offense would break through, however, a Brett Baty inside-the-park home run would spark the the Cavaliers in the fifth. After scoring three runs in the fifth, two more home runs would allow them to add five runs in the sixth. Brett Baty lead off the inning with a home run to left and was later followed with a grand slam by uncommitted 2020 2B Jack Lopez.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday night in San Antonio at University of the Incarnate Word.
