Lonestar Scout Day - Quick Hits

Brandon Gowins
Texas Scouting Director

On Sunday, September 11th, we hosted the Lonestar Baseball Club Scout Day at St. Edward's University. The day was split into two sessions with all 2026's reporting for the morning workout, followed by 2023-2025's reporting for the afternoon portion. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts, including multiple uncommitted 2023's that can help a program at the next level.

+ FULL STAT SHEET

QUICK HITS

Mason Ashlock 1B / OF / Dripping Springs, TX / 2023

They physical Senior from Dripping Springs had a solid day at Lonestar Scout Day. The 1st thing you notice with Ashlock is the physicality. He is well put together and has a strong build. In the box, there isn’t a lot of wasted motion in the swing. He has a compact, short swing allowing him to consistently barrel up the baseball.  He showed the ability to drive the ball the other way with authority as well. Defensively, Ashlock profiles best at a Corner OF spot or 1st base.

Cade Algaier OF / LHP / Round Rock, TX / 2023

The first thing that stands out when watching Algaier is the athleticism and bounce he moves with on the field. It was evident when he ran a 6.49 60 yd dash. It is a + run tool and should play in centerfield.  He also showed an above average arm with 91 mph from the outfield.  At the plate he shows above avg. bat speed and a gap to gap approach.  He maxed out at 95.3 on his exit velo. Algaier is a plus athlete with a lot of tools.

Cody Rogers C / 3B / Davenport, TX / 2023

Rogers had a solid day overall. The backstop from Davenport showed well behind the plate during defensive drills.  He was consistently around a 2.04 for his pop time and showed a quick transfer on his throw downs.  At the plate, Rogers drove the baseball to all fields with authority, ending his round loudly to the pull side.  Rogers shows the tools to stick behind the plate and be an offensive catcher, which is hard to find.

Miles Wallace 3B / RHP / Cedar Ridge, TX / 2023

The physical righty from Cedar Ridge threw the hardest fastball of the day at Lonestar Scout Day.  He never threw a FB under 86 and topped out at 89.  And that is while he is in football season.  He has a strong lower half that allows for some low effort velocity. He showed the ability to spin the baseball with a curveball that showed good depth.   There should be another velocity jump as Wallace continues to sink his lower and upper half together.

Alexander Paniagua RHP / RHP / Eagle Pass, TX / 2023

Paniagua had a very professional bullpen on Sunday. The senior righty threw to all 4 quadrants of the strike zone with his fastball and showed the ability to land his secondaries in the zone as well.  He threw a mid 80’s fastball that topped out at 86. He showed good command of it, and I think there is more there as he gets into his legs more.  He has a good slider that shows good two plane break and comes out of the same slot as his fastball.  The 3rd pitch, the change up showed good tumbling action and should keep lefties honest.

Luke Saulters LHP / 1B / Cedar Ridge, TX / 2023

The lefty from Cedar Ridge presents a tough ab for the hitter. He has some deception and hides the ball well with a short arm action. The fastball topped out at 83 and sat in the 80-82 mph range. The pitch showed good carry and plays well at the top of the zone.  He also threw a cb from the same slot as the fb, and should play nicely off the fb in the upper part of the zone.  Saulters also featured a tumbling change up that had nice sinking action and some arm side run. The frame is lean and he should be able to keep gaining strength. The

Parker Collier C / 3B / Clear Falls, TX / 2025

Collier had a standout day on Sunday.  Collier is just a baseball player and does everything well.  He is a switch hitter showing strength and power potential from both sides.  Both swings are compact, featuring above average bat speed.  Collier showed good hands in the infield with enough arm strength for 3rd.  On the mound, he was in the low 80’s showing an easy operation with minimal effort.  Where I think Collier’s future is behind the plate.  He has a strong body to handle the demands of the position. He showed the ability to receive and finished with a 2.05 pop time.

Caiden Perardi 3B / RHP / Stony Point, TX / 2025

Perardi was one of the more intriguing players at the Lonestar Scout Day. The sophomore has a long lean build that has a lot of projection left.  He showed good baseball IQ throughout the day and did a little bit of everything. He did all 3 phases on Defense, Showing a long arm swing that compliments the OF or the mound the most.  At the plate, he showed some pull side power and as he gets stronger that should continue to get better.  Where Perardi really caught my eye was on the mound.  That long frame and long arm swing generated low 80’s velo on the fastball with easy ASR and sink on it.  As he gets stronger, FB should continue to get better. Perardi has a lot of tools, and will be one for us to follow moving forward.

Andrew Winters SS / C / James Bowie, TX / 2026

Winters, a freshman, showed a lot of potential on Sunday.  He did everything defensively, but I was impressed with him behind the plate. He has a strong frame for his age, and has the look of a catcher.  He was consistently in the 2.1’s on his pop times, and moves well behind there to where he could be an above average defender. On the mound, Winters topped 80 with his fb, showing an easy operation on the mound. At the plate, Winters shows the ability to drive the ball to all fields. His swing has some loft to it, and as he continues to get stronger should develop some power.  Winters should be a name to follow moving forward.
