Marcus vs. Flower Mound

FLOWER MOUND, TX - If you were looking quality all-around baseball on Tuesday night, this game had it all: two quality arms, cross-town district rivals, extra-innings, rowdy fans, and a walk-off win. The Marcus Marauders and Flower Mound Jaguars brought it all to the ballpark yesterday. 2019 RHP Tyler Morgan (ACU) and 2020 RHP Cam Brown (TCU) both poured their hearts on the mound, and showed the competitive determination and grit that make a ball game fun to watch.

The Jags struck the first blow with a run in the top of the fourth when Cam Brown led off with a single, then a pinch runner stole second, and 2019 OF Austin Wallace blistered an RBI single up the middle. 1-0 Flower Mound.

The Marauders answered in the bottom half with a leadoff double from Blake Mayfield and a two out single up the middle from 2021 OF Tyler Schott.

In the seventh, Flower Mound got a one out double from 2020 2B Tyler Talbert (DBU), and after a ground out and a walk, the Jags had runners on the corners, but Tyler Morgan froze the leadoff hitter with an outside fastball to get out of the jam.

The Marauders got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh, and after a sacrifice bunt moved him up to second base, Flower Mound elected to walk the next guy, putting 2 on with 1 out. 2021 SS Hunter Teplansky (TCU) hammered a fly ball to centerfield, putting runners on the corners with two outs. But Cam Brown bowed his neck and got a huge jam shot pop up on a 3-2 fastball, with a great diving play in foul territory by 3B Austin Russell.

To extra innings they went, and both head coaches called upon the bullpen. Collier Mershon worked around a one out walk to get two flyouts. Then, in the bottom of the eighth 2B Brandon Concannon singled with two outs, then stole second. After Brett Hedges walked, 2021 Tyler Schott drove a single to left field for his second hit and RBI of the night to give Marcus the 2-1 walk-off win.

With the win, Marcus moves into a second place tie in District 6-6A with Coppell at 7-2 (19-7 Overall). Flower Mound still holds a one game lead at 8-1 (20-8 Overall). These two teams will meet again on Friday for what could prove to be one of the most decisive games of the year in the state.
