GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- Throughout the fall, PBR's staff will be on the road covering baseball across Texas. Games, workouts, practices, camps and more.  The "boots on the ground" philosophy of PBR is well represented with the coverage throughout the Fall of 2017. Here is our coverage from Week 4 of the Metro Scout League.

Academy Select Ingram

+ A couple of switch hitters had solid performances at the plate for Academy Select Ingram; 2020 UT/RHP Jayden Hill (Frisco HS) has an already strong frame at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. On Sunday, he combined a solid offensive performance with a quality outing on the mound. The switch-hitter went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a single, double and a deep fly ball that just missed leaving the yard in right field. On the mound, the right-hander sat at 81 mph with his fastball, topping out at 82 and 83. He mixed in a changeup for good measure at 76 mph. 2020 Nathaniel Price (Mansfield Legacy HS) is a gritty, switch-hitting catcher that plays hard. He went 2-for-4 with a double to the left-center gap, a sharp line drive single to center, and a hot shot to short.

+ 2021 RHP/OF Gavin Perryman (Dallas Jesuit HS) continues to impress on the mound. Just a freshman, Perryman stands 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, with a lean-muscular, athletic frame. We first covered Perryman last fall - as a then eighth grader - when he showed projectable all-around tools in a weekend series in Austin. On Sunday, Perryman sat 80-82 with his fastball, topping out at 83 & 84. He showed a sharp slider with 11/5 shape and darting action at 65-67. His changeup has arm side fade at 67-68 mph.

D-BAT

+ 2021 SS Chase Spencer (Plano West HS) put together quite the day on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with two singles, flashing some leather on defense, and dealing on the mound. The right-hander throws a sinking fastball at 79-81 mph, topping out at 82 mph, with a 70 mph slider.

Frozen Ropes

+ Several hitters for Frozen Ropes had solid performances, including unsigned 2018 OF Brooks Knightstep (McKinney Boyd HS). The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 with a scorching three-run homer over the left-field wall. Knightstep added a missile up the middle for a single, a walk and a punchout. 2019 C/IF Kyle York (Lake Dallas HS) also went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a single, walk, and just missed an 0-2 curveball that he popped up to first base. Unsigned senior SS Ethan Mann (McKinney Boyd HS) might have gone 2-for-4 with a triple to right field and a double to left-center, but he continues to barrel up pitching this fall, putting together QAB’s. He also flew out on the barrel to center and hit a rocket right at the shortstop.

+ 2018 Harrison Key (Sherman HS) is a 6-foot-4 right-hander that continues to improve as he gets more innings this fall. Key topped out at 88 mph, but sat mostly 85-86 mph. Mixed in a sweeping breaking ball with slurvey action at 66-68, flashing something similar at 73 mph. Key has a lot of upside and flashes quality stuff.

+ 2019 1B/RHP Kalen Clark (Coppell HS) went right at hitters, attacking the zone with his fastball at 82-84 mph with an easy arm stroke and delivery. For good measure, he mixed in a breaking ball at 69-71 mph. Competitive player with moxy on the mound.

+ Uncommitted 2018 RHP Mason Meeks (Lake Dallas HS) has impressed this fall with his ability to command the zone with his fastball and mix in a good curveball. This past Sunday, Meeks sat 82-85 mph, with a 71-73 mph curveball. The right-hander has a strong, projectable frame, last week he was 85-87 mph, so there is certainly velocity still left in his tank.

D-BAT Griffin

+ Several senior pitchers posted quality outings while showing solid stuff. Uncommitted 2018 RHP Alan West (Lewisville HS) stands 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with a projectable frame. The right-hander’s fastball was consistently 87 mph, while he mixed in a slider with 11/5 shape at 73-74 mph, and showed one changeup at 76 mph. 2018 LHP Connor Carlton (Abilene Wylie HS) is an Odessa JC recruit that stands 6-foot-2, 240-pounds. The left-hander sat 84-85 mph with his fastball, tickling 87 a time or two. Curveball has good depth and 12/6 shape at 73 mph, while his changeup came in at 76 mph. Another unsigned senior had a good outing, 2018 RHP Brock Taylor (Plano West HS) works from an over the top slot with a max effort delivery, going right at hitters with an 84-85 mph fastball, mixing in a 69-72 mph breaking ball with downward tilt.

+ Uncommmitted 2018 C/1B Carson Cheaney (Muenster HS) was 2-for-3 with an RBI single, double, walk, and a screaming line drive to center for another RBI.

D-BAT Gaviglio

+ Just a sophomore, 2020 Grant Golomb (Southlake Carroll HS) catches and plays some infield, but his future at the collegiate level may be on the mound. The right-hander pumped 86-87 with his fastball on Sunday, and has a late breaking curveball at 69-71 mph, and a changeup that has good arm side fade at 83 mph. Offensively, 2020 SS Andrew Stelling (Dallas Jesuit HS), led the charge, going 3-for-4 with three singles.
