Pitching Analysis

Chandler Freeman, 3B/RHP, Liberty Hill HS, 2019
DBU commit. Freeman once again showed off why he is one of the top players in Texas. A dynamic two-way prospect and primary 3B, Freeman has big time arm strength across the diamond and power at the plate. His fastball sat 89 mph with late life. Sharp slider with 11/5 shape at 77. Changeup flashes depth to his arm side at 80 mph.

Mason Speaker, C/RHP, All Saints Episcopal, 2019
Speaker stands 6-foot-3, 205-pounds with a projectable frame. A two-way player and right-handed pitcher, Speaker works from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke from back to front. Good hip turn down the mound with a drop and drive delivery that he repeats well. His fastball was mostly 84-86 mph, although he did bump a couple of 87’s and one 88. He has good feel for a 74-76 mph changeup that has arm side fade and depth, while he can also spin a curveball at 71-73 mph with short 11/5 break, but that pitch should improve as he continues to sync up his hand break with his his lower half. Flashed a slider that had more cutter action at 75-77 mph and lateral shape. With Speakers strong frame and hand speed, look for the velocity to continue to climb.

Gage Boehm, 1B/RHP, Hutto HS, 2020
Boehm is a Texas recruit with an advanced frame at 6-foot-4, 240-pounds. A two-way prospect and right-handed hitter, Boehm has high-end bat speed (97 mph) and crushed balls to the pull side during batting practice, including launching two home runs to left field. Showed soft hands and good footwork at first base during the position player workout where he picked numerous balls in the dirt. On the mound, the right-hander works from a ¾ slot with a quick arm back-to-front. His fastball sat 85-86 mph, he shows good feel for a 74-76 mph changeup, and his curveball has depth at 67-68 mph.

Chase Pelter, RHP, Kinkaid HS, 2021
Pelter stands 6-foot-2, 195-pounds with a strong frame and broad shoulders. His fastball sat 84-86 mph on saturday with arm side run. The right-hander has some funk and deception in his delivery with a quick arm. Showed feel for a changeup at 71-73 mph, with a developing curveball at 70-71 mph with lateral break.

Jack Hattrup, LHP/1B, Plano West HS, 2019
Hattrup was his normal self at the event. The 6-foot-4, 184-pound uncommitted junior is primed to make a velocity jump in the coming year. His fastball topped out at 83 mph, ranging from 81-83, and he continued to show plus feel for three pitches with deception. His curveball has good downer shape with depth at 66-69 mph. His changeup has excellent fade and depth at 69-71 mph. A two-way player and left-handed hitter, Hattrup has good barrel awareness with a short stroke and line drive power (82 exit velo). He hits in the middle of the order for Plano West and shows feel for handling spin and velocity. Does a nice job around the bag at first base. During the shortstop workout, Hattrup showed soft hands on numerous short hop throws.

All three pitches come from the same window and he repeats his delivery.

Speaker has a sturdy, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. A two-way player and primary shortstop, Speaker works from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke. His fastball cam in at 80 mph. What he calls a slider, varies in shape and depth at 68-73 mph and has more 11/5 curveball action compared to his cutter (71-75) that has more late, lateral movement. His changeup was his best offspeed pitch at 69-71 as he throws it with fastball arm speed and arm side depth. His curveball came in at 62-64 with gradual 11/5 break.

Dylan Scheurich, RHP, Marcus HS, 2019
6-foot, 175-pound, projectable frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a long, loose arm stroke. Tilts his shoulder at the top of his leg lift, leaning back before working down the mound with a drop and drive delivery and an athletic finish.
