SEASON PREVIEW

Kingwood High School returns a young but experienced team that finished 26-6 last season. The Mustangs have two of the top ranked players in the Texas 2020 Class in Masyn Winn and Tre Richardson. Both sophomores started up the middle as freshman last season. Wynn, a recent Stanford commit, is ranked No. 2 in Texas, No. 11 Overall, and was tabbed with Newcomer of the Year, 1st Team All-District, and 3rd Team All-State. Richardson, a Houston recruit, was a 1st Team All-District winner last year as a shortstop. Kingwood also returns 4 other All-District players, including 2018 C Austin Flemmati, 2019 OF Carter Amarantos, and 2018 Ben Cegelski. Keep an eye on left-handed hitter 2019 OF Luke Johnson, who has a physical presence at the plate with an advanced approach.

On the mound, 1st Team All-District winner 2018 LHP Cody Lancaster returns. Lancaster is a strike thrower with command of three pitches and will be counted on to eat up innings. Two-way player Masyn Winn runs his fastball into the low-90's and has a sharp slider that he can put hitters away with. Richardson also pitches and with the versatility and depth of the roster, the defense should be able to adjust easily when he or Winn pitch. Also working into the rotation early in the season and bolstering the bullpen will be Cameron Hoff, Jonathan Cashion, and Aaron Lucks.

The Mustangs may still be a relatively young club, but they only lost 6 games last year. After looking at the amount of experience and talent they return, look for this team to have a stellar season and make a deep playoff run.
