SEASON PREVIEW

The Robinson Rockets have their eyes set on another strong season in 2018. Coach Kemp's team won 31 games and made a spectacular playoff run that took them all the way to the state championship final. Headlining the pitching staff are two right-handers, Braxton Ashcraft and Mason Cooper. Ashcraft, a Baylor recruit, stands 6-foot-6, 190-pounds, with an athletic frame, and is currently ranked No. 5 in Texas, No. 32 Overall. This summer, we saw Ashcraft sit 89-93 mph with his fastball, touching 93 and 95 ounce. A two-way player, Ashcraft hit eight home runs last year on his way to batting .362. 2018 RHP Mason Cooper, also runs his fastball up to 90-91. The Texas State recruit stands 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, with a strong frame, and is currently ranked No. 101 in Texas. Last year, the two-way player hit .455 with 15 doubles.

A number of position players are back from 2017, including juniors C Peyton Powell, 1B/P Chris Morrow,  and OF Jake Strain.  Keep an eye on three sophomores that could make a significant contribution, SS/RHP Jordan Rogers, 2B Jace Walker, and OF Easton Slovacek. This past fall, Rogers was a standout in the Metro Scout League. With talented players spanning across three classes, the Rockets have a chance to make another deep playoff run.
