SEASON PREVIEW

College Station returns a seasoned club that won 22 games last year. The pitching staff is extremely deep, as they return 4 arms, including 2018 RHP Travis Hester, an Arkansas recruit that won District MVP and All-State in 2017 after recording a 9-1 record with a 76 K's. 2019 LHP Bryson Lucas, a TCU recruit, was 1st Team All-District with a 4-1 record. 2019 LHP Austin Teel was also 4-1 last season with 1.83 ERA. 2018 RHP Jace Hutchins, a Blinn JC recruit, has the command to bolster the rotation early in the season. With all of these returners, the Cougars also have strong crop of young talent that could add depth and strength to the bullpen. 2020 RHP Garrett Wright, a TCU commit, is currently ranked No. 11 in TX, and No. 56 Overall. The right-hander can run his fastball up to 90 and has a sharp curveball.

Offensively, the Cougars have two seniors to anchor the middle of the order with OF Wilson Roubion (1st Team All-District) and 1B Trey Barfield. 2019 C Cole Marler, a Lamar recruit, has the athleticism, strength and skill level to lead the Cougars behind the plate. Marler also has pop in his bat and is currently ranked No. 50 in TXNo. 242 Overall. Juniors 2B Kit Kawley, and OF Ben Holbert return to the varsity team as well. Keep an eye out for 2021 SS Ty Hodge to have a chance to be an impact player on varsity this year. Hodge is a Texas A&M commit that is currently ranked No. 4 in TX, No. 19 Overall. With all of the firepower on the mound, and the underclass talent, College Station has a chance to have a memorable season in 2018.
