TOMBALL, TX - Throughout the fall, PBR's staff will be on the road covering baseball across Texas. Games, workouts, practices, camps and more.  The "boots on the ground" philosophy of PBR is well represented with the coverage throughout the Fall of 2017. Here are some of the position players that stood out this past weekend in Tomball, including several from our Texas Rankings, and a number of uncommitted players.

Prospect National Scout Team

Caden Homniok, RHP/SS, Sweeny HS, 2019
Texas A&M commit. 6-foot-2, 175-pound, athletic, quick twitch frame. Homniok is currently ranked No. 16 in Texas 2019 Class, and looks the part at on the infield with athletic actions and solid arm strength. Although we only caught a couple of at-bats, he shows excellent bat speed, smooth rhythm, strong hands, and barrel awareness. He had a base in the four-hole and smoked a double to left-centerfield. Long stride runner, good acceleration and high ceiling.

ALEX CINTRON BASEBALL

Jackson Loftin, SS, Klein Collins HS, 2018
We were able to see a good bit of Loftin this summer and his defensive skills and presence in the middle of the field are excellent. He has a projectable frame and great feel for playing shortstop. But on Saturday, we had the chance to see the Sam Houston State recruit collect two sharp singles, one up the middle and one to left field. Currently ranked No. 90 in the Texas 2019 Class, Loftin also plays football at Klein Collins HS.

Hunter Pence (Crew)

Tre Jones, OF/LHP, Jersey Village HS, 2018
Jones has grown an inch or two since last fall, and added lean muscle to his high waisted, athletic 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame. The left handed hitter has a simple swing with average rhythm, collected a couple of knocks and showing strength at contact. With is frame, athleticism and projectability, Jones is a prospect that college coaches will want to get eyes on sooner rather than later.

Really liked what I saw from 2019 C Austin Barry (Langham Creek HS). He displayed soft hands behind the plate with good lower half flexibility, quiet body while receiving, looks comfortable. Exchange is quick, arm is accurate with a 2.04 pop time between innings. Only saw one at-bat, but he took a smooth swing and barreled up a fly ball to centerfield.

Action Baseball

2019 SS Evan Sparks (Cedar Park HS) has young, projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Showed good footwork at shortstop with active actions, and had a game winning walk-off hit up the middle on saturday morning. 2018 OF Reid Dalrymple (Burnet HS) is a left-handed hitter that not only has a projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, but strong hands and feel for the barrel. Not sure how many hits he had this weekend, but every time he got in the box, he got his best swing off and barreled it up.

RTG Baseball

Miggy Martinez, 3B/SS, Davis HS, 2019
Martinez has a strong, projectable frame at approximately 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, and he plays with a bounce in his step, showing smooth footwork and the ability to play on the run. Active infielder between innings, uses his voice on defense, always on the move. He made the jump throw on a ball in the six hole to get the runner at first base.

Saw 2019 SS Austin Roccaforte (Tomball Memorial HS) for one inning on defense and the Wichita State commit did not disappoint. He first ranged deep into the six-hole to back hand a ball, ultra quick exchange with a strong throw to first to get the runner. Several pitches later he went the opposite direction, diving behind the bag at second base and popping up like he landed on a trampoline to throw the runner out at first base. Currently Ranked No. 117 in Texas 2019 Class.

Banditos

Jose Gutierrez, 1B, Lamar HS, 2018
The left-handed hitting, Dallas Baptist commit is an imposing offensive force at 6-foot-3, 230-pounds. Currently ranked No. 37 in Texas 2018 Class, Gutierrez continues to establish himself as one of the top hitters in the state. In two at-bats, the left-handed hitter scorched a line drive that nearly knocked over the second baseman. In his next at-bat, he doubled off the right-centerfield wall. Gutierrez has tremendous bat speed and whips the barrel through zone.

Uncommitted 2018 OF Cody Wagner (Magnolia HS) is has an athletic frame at approximately 6-feet, 180-pounds. Long stride runner with an easy gate, the right-handed hitter sent a line shot missile over the left-centerfield wall for a home run in the Banditos win Saturday morning. Wagner also pitched in relief that game, threw strikes and showed feel for a curveball, but with his all-around athleticism, his future is most likely as a position player.

2018 SS Joshua Rodriguez (Klein Oak HS) is a gritty, gamer-type player with a high motor. If there is a play happening on the field, chances are he is in the middle of it. The right-handed hitter can handle the bat, but also has an aggressive approach and strong hands at contact.
