season preview

The Lindale High School Eagles will have no shortage of speed and athleticism in 2017 as they return three starters with double-digit stolen bases. Leading the way will be Houston commit, Brad Burckel. Last year Burckel was the Co-Offensive POY, hitting .377 with 23 stolen bases. Burckel is currently ranked #56 in the Texas 2018 class. Junior third baseman Jamey Richey will look to build off an impressive 2016 season that awarded him New-Comer of the Year as he hit .500, posted 14 RBI and stole 11 bases. Richey, who was named Honorable Mention All-State, shows great plate discipline and power. Junior center fielder Kollin McCartney received Honorable Mention All-District last year after hitting .467 with 28 RBI and 12 stolen bases. McCartney possesses great instincts, speed and hitting ability.

The Eagles return a pair of seniors on the mound. Right-hander Gage Walters is a Navarro College commit and is a two-way player. Left-hander Nick Norton was 2nd Team All-District in 2016, posting a 1.77 ERA with 48 strikeouts. Norton has been receiving interest from junior colleges around the state. Although Coach Sanguinetti will look to some younger players to step up, Lindale's speed and defense will give them a chance to win.
